Position: Housekeeping Aide

Status: Part-time

Department: Environmental Services

Union Association: CUPE

Salary: $26.86 - $27.28/hour

Hours: 0900-1700/1500-2300/2300-0700/0700-1500 weekdays and weekends (may include holidays) (subject to change based on operational needs)

Position Summary

Responsible for maintaining assigned patient or non/patient care area of the Hospital in a clean and sanitary condition in accordance with established cleaning protocols and infection control guidelines.

Responsible for cleaning project work, garbage collection, furniture moving and room set-up as required.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Demonstrated ability to read, understand and follow written instructions; to perform basic arithmetic calculations to determine appropriate proportions for mixing cleaning products and solutions; and the ability to prepare routine written reports normally acquired through the completion of a secondary school graduation diploma and a minimum of 1 (one) year experience or equivalent.
  • Ability to relate in a tactful and sensitive manner with staff, patients, volunteers and visitors.
  • Preference will be given to those individuals who have had related cleaning/housekeeping experience and have successfully worked as a member of a workplace team.
  • Ability to operate and use cleaning equipment such as Autoscrubber, scrubber, vacuum, floor polishers, steam cleaner.

Knowledge, Skills And Responsibilities

  • Work requires demonstrated time management and organizational skills to complete assigned tasks and carry out work routines with limited direct supervision.
  • Essential duties of the position requires prolonged periods of walking, standing, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling and lifting (to 50 pounds), climbing, bending and reaching.
  • Work requires knowledge of cleaning products, methods and techniques,
  • Ability to work independently and/or as a member of a team
  • Flexibility to modify routines as required to manage changing priorities
  • Ability to successfully complete WHIMIS, product and equipment handling safety programs as a condition of employment
  • Wear protective aids when required by Health and Safety to perform the job
  • Responsible for furniture moving, room set up if required, and the collection of garbage, waste and soiled linen
  • Participate in cycle cleaning project work such as window washing, floor stripping, etc.
