TITLE: ART TEACHER

Qualifications

  • Valid Ohio certification/licensure – Art K-12
  • Bachelor's degree, Art Education
  • Such Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

JOB GOAL: To develop in each pupil an interest in and the ability for creative expression in visual terms, using skills and techniques of artistic expression appropriate to the Pupil's interests and abilities: to develop aesthetic understandings and appreciation; to discover and develop talents of pupils in the field of art.

Performance Responsibilities

  • Teaches knowledge and skills in art, including crafts, drawing, painting, lettering, design, art history, and three-dimensional art, following the course of study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities.
  • Provides instruction to assist pupils in developing the ability to make qualitative judgments about art.
  • Develops instructional plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time.
  • Provides instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils varying intellectual and artistic abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive studio environment.
  • Instructs pupils in proper care and use of tools and equipment.
  • Organizes storage areas and controls use of materials, equipment and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection.
  • Evaluates each pupil's performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings, and prepares progress reports.
  • Selects and requisitions books, instructional materials, tools, instructional aids, and maintains required inventory records.
  • Takes responsibility for professional growth and development.
  • Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress, as needed.
  • Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school or the district level.
  • Provides a program for the gifted and talented students in Visual Art.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year as established by the Board and terms of negotiated contract.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel and provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
