Key Responsibilities
Tax & Compliance Management
- Oversee all tax-related accounting functions including payroll tax reconciliation, quarterly filings, and year-end reporting for multiple client entities
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations across diverse jurisdictions
- Manage tax audits and coordinate responses to tax authority inquiries
- Monitor and implement changes in tax legislation affecting PEO/ASO operations
- Direct monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes with emphasis on revenue recognition specific to PEO/ASO service models
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger functions
- Manage client billing processes and revenue reconciliation
- Prepare comprehensive financial reports and analysis for leadership team
- Apply deep knowledge of PEO and ASO business structures to accounting practices
- Manage complex multi-entity accounting arrangements and client fund segregation
- Ensure proper accounting treatment of co-employment relationships and service fee structures
- Collaborate with HR and payroll teams to maintain accurate client account reconciliations
- Supervise accounting staff and provide mentorship for professional development
- Partner with payroll processing team to ensure seamless financial operations
- Work closely with Executive Vice President of HR & General Counsel on compliance matters
- Serve as key liaison with external auditors and tax advisors
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA strongly preferred)
- Minimum 5-7 years progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in PEO, ASO, or related service industry
- Comprehensive knowledge of tax accounting principles and multi-state tax compliance requirements
- Proven expertise in PEO/ASO business models and associated accounting complexities
- Strong understanding of payroll tax regulations and employment-related tax obligations
- Proficiency in accounting software systems and advanced Excel skills
- Experience with high-volume, multi-client accounting environments
- Active CPA license
- Experience with 401(k) plan accounting and compliance
- Knowledge of workers' compensation insurance accounting
- Familiarity with benefits administration financial processes
- Prior experience managing accounting teams
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
