Senior Drilling Engineer

Accountabilities:

• Lead the design, planning, and execution of complex exploration drilling programs, including diamond core, sonic, reverse circulation, and air core drilling activities across multiple global projects.
• Develop comprehensive drilling execution plans covering technical design, cost estimation, procurement strategy, scheduling, risk assessment, and operational readiness.
• Provide technical oversight during active drilling operations, ensuring alignment with safety standards, engineering specifications, and exploration objectives.
• Conduct detailed engineering analyses such as casing design, torque and drag analysis, directional drilling planning, mud system optimization, and failure root cause investigations.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary technical teams to translate exploration goals into executable drilling programs and effective field operations.
• Manage contractor selection, vendor relationships, and contractor performance through procurement processes, bid evaluations, and operational reviews.
• Monitor operational performance, production forecasts, costs, and resource utilization while delivering recommendations to improve efficiency, safety, and data quality.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, environmental, permitting, and community engagement requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
• Contribute to the development of drilling engineering standards, best practices, and lessons learned initiatives while mentoring junior drilling engineers.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Petroleum, Civil, Geological, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 7+ years of progressive drilling engineering experience within mineral exploration, oil & gas, or related industries.
• Advanced expertise in drilling techniques, drilling program design, directional drilling, drilling optimization, and drilling operations management.
• Strong understanding of drilling construction methodologies, remote exploration logistics, helicopter-supported operations, and seasonal terrain challenges.
• Experience using advanced drilling design and analysis software tools.
• Proven knowledge of procurement processes, contractor management, risk assessment, and operational execution planning.
• Strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards, including incident investigation and corrective action implementation.
• Ability to work independently in remote and challenging environments with minimal supervision.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and operational teams.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and contributing to organizational knowledge sharing is highly valued.
• Professional engineering certification (P.Eng. or equivalent) or progress toward certification is considered an asset.
• English fluency required; French or additional language skills are a plus.
