Principal Engineer
Indexed description
This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Principal Engineer in United States.
This role sits at the forefront of advanced power systems engineering, focusing on the design, analysis, and modelling of next-generation electrical grids. You will contribute to complex electromagnetic transient (EMT) studies and system simulations that support the development of a more resilient and intelligent energy infrastructure. Working closely with senior leadership, you will provide deep technical expertise while also shaping engineering practices through mentorship and knowledge sharing. The position combines hands-on technical modelling, client advisory work, and strategic project leadership in a highly specialized consulting environment. You will engage with cutting-edge tools and methodologies to solve challenges related to renewable integration, grid stability, and large-scale energy systems. This is a high-impact role where your expertise directly influences the evolution of modern power networks.
Accountabilities:
- Perform advanced EMT power system studies, including temporary and switching overvoltage, insulation coordination, harmonic analysis, flicker, transient recovery voltage, energization, and lightning overvoltage assessments.
- Develop and validate dynamic generator and load models, including disturbance ride-through tuning and PSCAD/PSSE benchmarking.
- Conduct steady-state power system studies such as load flow, short-circuit analysis, and power quality assessments.
- Utilize specialized modelling tools including PSCAD, PSS®E, ETAP, and other platforms such as EMTP, CYMCAP, COMSOL, PowerFactory, and CDEGS where applicable.
- Support client advisory services for generation developers, large-load customers, and transmission projects, ensuring delivery within scope, schedule, and budget.
- Apply industry standards and best practices (IEEE, IEC, CIGRÉ) to ensure technical compliance and reliability.
- Lead technical delivery while mentoring and guiding junior engineers in power system modelling and analysis.
- Contribute to control system tuning, model development, and integration of complex electrical equipment behaviors.
- 8+ years of experience in power system modelling and power system studies.
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power systems.
- Strong expertise in EMT analysis and dynamic system modelling.
- Hands-on experience with PSCAD, PSS®E, or equivalent power system simulation tools.
- Knowledge of data center equipment dynamics and conventional generation systems is highly valued.
- Experience with control system tuning and model validation.
- Strong understanding of industry standards such as IEEE, IEC, and CIGRÉ.
- Proven ability to lead technical projects and mentor engineering teams.
- Strong client-facing communication and consulting skills.
- Comprehensive health coverage including medical, dental, and vision with full premium support for employees.
- Generous paid time off and statutory holidays.
- Employee ownership program (MyShare) enabling participation in company success.
- Retirement savings plan with up to 4% employer match (fully vested from day one).
- Opportunity to work with leading experts in advanced power systems and grid innovation.
- Flexible remote work options across Canada and the US.
- Occasional travel opportunities (up to 10%) for project and client engagement.
