This role sits at the intersection of clinical expertise, mental health care delivery, and cutting-edge AI innovation, focused on ensuring that technology-driven mental health tools meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and clinical effectiveness. You will apply deep therapeutic knowledge to evaluate and improve AI systems that support large-scale access to evidence-based care. Working within a multidisciplinary environment, you will help define how clinical intelligence is embedded into digital products used by hundreds of thousands of individuals. The position combines hands-on clinical judgment with structured evaluation of AI behavior and outputs. You will also contribute to safety monitoring, escalation processes, and continuous improvement of AI-driven care tools. This is a mission-driven role where clinical insight directly shapes the future of accessible mental health support at scale.
Accountabilities
In this role, you will ensure that AI-powered clinical tools meet rigorous standards of safety, quality, and therapeutic effectiveness while supporting their continuous improvement through structured evaluation and clinical expertise.
- Conduct clinical safety and quality monitoring of AI-driven mental health tools to ensure alignment with established clinical standards and protocols
- Perform clinical escalation procedures to support client safety and ensure appropriate care responses
- Participate in structured testing of AI systems to validate clinical accuracy, safety, and effectiveness
- Develop and curate clinically relevant scenarios reflecting real-world client experiences, including safety and distress situations
- Define and write high-quality “gold standard” clinical responses to guide AI model outputs
- Evaluate AI-generated responses to assess clinical quality, appropriateness, and adherence to evidence-based practices
- Identify gaps, risks, and improvement opportunities in AI-driven clinical interactions
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product, engineering, and clinical teams to enhance AI tool development
- Contribute to the refinement of clinical frameworks used in AI model training and evaluation
- Support ongoing quality assurance processes for digital mental health interventions
- Ensure clinical integrity across AI tools used in large-scale behavioral health delivery
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, scalability, and effectiveness of AI systems
- Master’s degree in a clinical discipline (MSW, MFT, MC, MMHC) or PsyD / PhD in clinical or counseling psychology
- Active, unrestricted clinical license (LCSW, LMFT, LPC, PsyD, PhD, or equivalent) in good standing
- 4+ years of post-licensure direct clinical experience in full-time practice
- Strong expertise in safety risk assessment and management (e.g., suicidality, self-harm, crisis intervention)
- Experience in clinical quality assurance, auditing, or evaluation of care standards
- Deep knowledge of evidence-based treatments such as CBT, DBT, ACT, IPT, or EFT
- Strong ability to apply clinical judgment in structured and unstructured scenarios
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to document, evaluate, and articulate clinical reasoning
- Comfort working in fast-paced, evolving environments with ambiguity and innovation
- Strong collaboration skills across clinical, product, and technical teams
- Passion for expanding access to mental health care through technology
- Preferred: experience applying generative AI or LLMs in a healthcare or mental health context
- Preferred: experience delivering culturally responsive clinical care
- Competitive salary range: $106,000 – $162,500 annually (based on experience and location)
