Job Summary
The Technical Advisor – Domain Architecture is an entry-level engineering role within the Advanced Solutions Group, providing operational and technical support across SHI’s cloud and infrastructure, networking, and data center engineering teams. This role is designed as a launchpad: the Technical Advisor builds foundational knowledge across multiple technology domains by doing the essential behind-the-scenes work that enables SHI’s senior engineers and STO to deliver high-quality customer engagements. This is a learn-by-doing role. The Technical Advisor prepares bills of materials, builds vendor comparison matrices, configures lab environments, researches emerging technologies, and assembles briefing and engagement materials. In return, they gain broad exposure to enterprise technology stacks, OEM ecosystems, and the consultative engagement model that defines SHI’s engineering practice—building the skills and credibility to grow into a domain engineer, solutions architect, or Field CTO over time.
Role Description
Prepare and assemble bills of materials (BOMs), product configurations, and pricing comparison documents for customer engagements across cloud, infrastructure, networking, and data center domains.
Build vendor and technology comparison matrices that help senior engineers and Field CTOs evaluate and position solutions from major OEMs and hyperscalers.
Configure, maintain, and reset lab environments used for customer demonstrations, proof-of-concept testing, and internal training.
Research vendor announcements, product releases, end-of-life notices, and competitive updates—synthesizing findings into concise summaries for engineering team consumption.
Assemble and format materials for Executive Briefing Centers (EBCs), workshops, and customer assessments—including slide decks, data sheets, and supporting documentation.
Maintain engagement trackers, project logs, and internal documentation that support the domain architecture practice’s operational cadence.
Support senior engineers with pre-engagement research: customer environment profiles, installed base data, and relevant case studies or reference architectures.
Assist with data gathering, formatting, and quality checks for customer deliverables such as assessment reports, architecture reviews, and TCO analyses.
Participate in internal team meetings, vendor briefings, and training sessions to build technical knowledge across cloud platforms, networking, compute, storage, and virtualization.
Provide ad hoc support across all domain architecture teams as priorities shift—learning to operate flexibly across technology domains rather than specializing prematurely.
Shadow senior engineers on customer calls and engagements when opportunities arise, observing how technical expertise translates into customer advisory and commercial outcomes.
