Staff Backend Developer

You will join a high-scale engineering environment responsible for powering real-time advertising systems used globally across a major digital ecosystem. The role focuses on building and evolving backend services that process billions of daily requests with strict performance, reliability, and security requirements. You will contribute to the modernization of core distributed systems that support ad delivery, bidding, analytics, and monetization features. This is a highly collaborative position where engineering, product, and data teams work closely to deliver impactful features. You will operate in a remote-first, fast-paced environment where system design decisions directly affect global user experience. The work is both deeply technical and highly visible, with strong emphasis on scalability and continuous improvement. Accountabilities:

In this role, you will design, build, and evolve backend services that power large-scale real-time advertising and monetization systems. You will work on improving system performance, reliability, and scalability while supporting ongoing platform modernization efforts.

• Design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend services and APIs supporting ad delivery and related systems
• Contribute to the architecture and evolution of distributed systems handling high-throughput, low-latency traffic
• Improve system observability, reliability, cost efficiency, and operational performance across core services
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and data teams to deliver new features and system capabilities
• Participate in technical decision-making and contribute to long-term platform and infrastructure strategy
• Support modernization of legacy systems and help transition toward more scalable architectures

Requirements

You bring strong backend engineering experience with a focus on distributed systems, scalability, and performance-critical environments. You are comfortable working in complex technical ecosystems and collaborating across multiple teams.

• 8+ years of experience in backend or distributed systems engineering roles
• Strong proficiency in Go (Golang) and experience with relational databases such as MySQL
• Experience building and operating large-scale, high-availability systems
• Solid understanding of distributed systems, API design, and system reliability principles
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and orchestration tools (e.g., Kubernetes and related observability tooling)
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively in a remote-first environment
• Bonus: experience in ad tech, real-time bidding, caching systems, or high-throughput data pipelines
• Bonus: exposure to infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform
