Research is developing the future of AI glasses and cutting-edge robotics. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will become part of a team translating new machine perception concepts and fast iterative prototyping to develop the latest sensing hardware designs. We want people who work well in teams, can brainstorm big ideas, work in new technology areas, drive a concept into a prototype and then mature the design towards volume product solutions. We are looking for someone with a product mindset, who also is very comfortable working on rapid prototyping, to join a highly collaborative and productive team. We work at a fast pace with a group of highly self-motivated talents. The individual should continuously develop personal knowledge and expertise in new technology for sensing systems, process design, manufacturing, and scalability.
Responsibilities:
- Drive rapid prototyping efforts that will deliver multiple iterations of concepts in a short period of time.
- Drive end-to-end discussions on system assembly process down-selection, prototyping, equipment & tooling needs for high precision assembly meeting mechanical, optical and reliability requirements.
- Work closely with external equipment manufacturers, part suppliers, integrators to support technology deployment and development.
- Support process validation studies and proof-of-concept builds.
- Contribute to FMEA, failure analysis, tolerance analysis, gauge R&R, and the GD&T activities supporting product and prototyping development.
Minimum qualifications:
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Mechanical or optomechanical background with proven working knowledge of high precision alignment process development of optical imaging, display or sensing assemblies, as well as rapid prototyping skills.
- Experience in designing consumer technology products.
- 3+ years of experience using 3D CAD software to work on large assemblies in a document-controlled environment.
- Experience of working with international equipment vendors and international contract manufacturers.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience using NX and/or SolidWorks preferred.
- MS, PhD in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Prior experience in wearable electronics packaging technologies.
- Prior experience owning the design from concept to ship of optical-mechanical components, cameras, or equivalent.
- Knowledge of image processing and optical-display metrics, such as MTF, contrast, luminance, uniformity etc.
- Experience with design and prototyping of head-mounted optical systems and/or bench-top optical setups.
- Knowledge of component/module mounting, interfaces, and adhesive bonding.
- Familiar with electrical system drivers and automation equipment operations.
- Knowledge of structural and stress analysis and FEA.
