This role sits at the core of a modern cloud-first IT environment, where you will be responsible for maintaining, optimizing, and securing a complex Microsoft-based infrastructure. You will work extensively with Azure and Microsoft 365 technologies to ensure systems are highly available, scalable, and aligned with organizational needs. The position blends hands-on systems administration with strategic input on architecture, automation, and security improvements. You will collaborate with technical teams and stakeholders while operating with a high degree of autonomy and ownership. Accountabilities:
- Design, implement, and optimize Azure and Microsoft 365 environments to ensure performance, scalability, and reliability across systems.
- Manage Entra ID configurations, including authentication, identity governance, and conditional access policies.
- Oversee Microsoft 365 licensing, resource allocation, and usage tracking to ensure cost efficiency and compliance.
- Configure and maintain Microsoft Defender, Purview, and related security tools to protect systems and corporate data.
- Lead incident response activities, vulnerability mitigation, and enforcement of security policies using best practices and threat intelligence.
- Implement data protection, retention policies, and compliance controls including eDiscovery within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.
- Develop automation scripts and processes (e.g., PowerShell, Azure Automation) to improve operational efficiency.
- Maintain technical documentation, generate system performance and security reports, and ensure accurate reporting of tasks and activities.
- 8+ years of experience in IT with strong expertise in systems administration or infrastructure engineering.
- Deep knowledge of Azure services (IaaS, Virtual Desktop, File Storage) and Microsoft 365 security/compliance tools.
- Strong experience with Entra ID (Azure Active Directory), including advanced identity and access management configurations.
- Solid understanding of Microsoft Defender, Azure Identity Protection, and enterprise security fundamentals such as conditional access.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications including Teams, SharePoint, and Power Platform.
- Experience with scripting and automation using PowerShell or Azure Automation tools.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team with minimal supervision.
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Willingness to travel up to 5% within the United States.
