Company Overview

A real estate development and property operations company is seeking a hands-on Senior Accountant to join our South Florida team. This position reports directly to the Controller and works closely with accounting, operations, property management, and ownership teams across multiple entities and locations.

About the Role

The Senior Accountant is responsible for day-to-day accounting execution, monthly close, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, reporting support, and resolution of accounting exceptions. This is not only a review role. The right candidate must be comfortable digging into details, researching variances, fixing reconciling items, supporting the balance sheet, and keeping the books accurate and audit-ready.

What You'll Do
  • Own and prepare monthly journal entries, accruals, reclasses, allocations, and recurring entries with proper backup and support.
  • Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, including cash, prepaid assets, deposits, fixed assets, investments, intercompany accounts, loans, accruals, deferred revenue, equity, and other key accounts.
  • Maintain properly supported schedules for balance sheet accounts, including prepaid asset schedules, fixed asset additions and depreciation schedules, equity rollforwards, investment in subsidiaries schedules, intercompany support, debt schedules, and other audit-ready rollforwards.
  • Research and resolve exceptions in bank reconciliations, including unmatched deposits, stale checks, missing ACH/wire activity, duplicate postings, timing differences, and items posted to the wrong entity or account.
  • Review prepaid expenses and accruals each month to ensure expenses are recorded in the proper period and supported by clear schedules.
  • Reconcile sub-ledger activity to the general ledger, including AP, POS, property management software, revenue platforms, vendor systems, and bank activity.
  • Review profit and loss activity for proper classification, department, entity, project, and location coding.
  • Prepare variance analysis and identify unusual trends, missing expenses, revenue timing issues, miscoded transactions, and balance sheet cleanup items.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, management reporting packages, budgets, forecasts, and cash flow reporting.
  • Work with AP and operations to confirm invoices, vendor statements, payment timing, approval support, and proper coding.
  • Supervise, guide, and support accounting staff in their daily work, including AP, AR, bank reconciliations, journal entries, schedules, and other close-related tasks.
  • Review accounting staff work for accuracy, completeness, and proper support, and timely bring up issues, exceptions, or concerns to the Controller when additional guidance or escalation is needed.
  • Support audit and tax requests by preparing schedules, pulling documentation, and explaining account activity clearly.
  • Help improve accounting processes, close checklists, reconciliations, system workflows, reporting templates, and special projects.
Systems and Tools

The candidate should be comfortable learning and working across multiple accounting, reporting, AP, POS, and property operations systems, including:

  • Sage Intacct for general ledger, reporting, multi-entity accounting, dimensions, and close support.
  • Velixo for Excel-based reporting, financial statements, account analysis, and data validation from Sage Intacct.
  • TimberScan for AP workflow, invoice approvals, coding, and document support.
  • Craftable and Toast POS for restaurant/food and beverage activity, vendor data, sales, and operating support where applicable.
  • Property management software for property-level accounting, owner/tenant activity, revenue, fees, occupancy, and operating data.
  • Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, SUMIFS, reconciliations, rollforwards, and clean supporting schedules.
What We Are Looking For
  • A true hands-on accountant who can prepare, not just review.
  • Someone who understands that every balance sheet account needs clear support, ownership, and a current rollforward or reconciliation.
  • Ability to identify when something does not look right and follow the activity through the bank, sub-ledger, invoice, contract, schedule, or general ledger until resolved.
  • Comfortable working in a multi-entity environment with intercompany activity, shared expenses, property-level accounting, and multiple bank accounts.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, accrual accounting, matching of revenue and expenses, balance sheet support, and monthly close discipline.
  • High attention to detail, strong follow-up, organized schedules, and professional communication with accounting and non-accounting team members.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required.
  • 3 to 5 years of progressive accounting experience required, preferably in real estate, hospitality, restaurants, property operations, construction, or a multi-entity environment.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Velixo, TimberScan, Craftable, Toast POS, or property management software is a plus.
  • Strong Excel skills required. CPA or CPA track is a plus, but not required.
What We Offer
  • Competitive compensation based on experience and education.
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, paid vacation and holidays, and a 401(k) plan.
  • Opportunity to work closely with management and ownership in a hands-on, high-impact accounting role.
