General Functions
Performs maintenance and repair service on a variety of general and special utility equipment and vehicles.
This is limited maintenance and repair work utilizing knowledge of the operation and repair of a variety of general and special equipment and vehicles used by the Highway Maintenance Division. An employee in a position assigned to this class performs a variety of maintenance and repair tasks using a wide range of general and special tools. Equipment is serviced and maintained at field worksites and at the Highway Division District facilities.
Work is performed under the general supervision of a foreman who provides written and oral instructions of daily tasks to be performed. Work is checked by the supervisor for accuracy, operating efficiency and safety.
Representative Duties/Assignments
- Uses welding torch, air compressor, grinder, chain saw, drill press, hand and power tools to perform mechanical and electrical repairs to vehicle and equipment.
- Evaluates equipment problems, prioritizes work and repairs highway maintenance equipment in the field.
- Performs preventive maintenance and repairs chain saws, weed eaters, mowers, edgers, tractors and graders.
- Fuels vehicles and equipment in the field.
- Repair hoses, belts, bolts and minor electrical problems to maintain equipment in proper operating condition and reduces need for in-shop repairs.
- Maintains tools, supplies and equipment needed to perform preventative maintenance and field repairs.
- Performs other related work as required.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida class B commercial driver's license or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire date.
Preference:
1-Year experience in repairing and maintaining small equipment such as chainsaws, lawn mowers, weed eater, grinders and other power tools.
1-Year experience in performing or evaluating preventive maintenance on construction equipment such as dump trucks, flatbeds, backhoe and tractors.

Pay Grade: 10 - From $18.10 to $22.97

Working hours are Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. / 40 Hours per week
