Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary

The purpose of this position is to provide advising, intervention and transfer information to Architecture, Architectural Technology, Technical Drafting and Design Technology, and Construction Management declared majors. The Advisor collaborates with the College’s Outreach and Recruitment Department to provide Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Architectural/Drafting Technology program information to prospective students and works closely with the Program Director and Architectural/Drafting Technology faculty.

The Advisor assists students in overcoming challenges to their education goals in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Technical Drafting and Design Technology, and Construction Management by conducting intervention and advising of at-risk and academically unprepared students; identifying College and community resources available to students; assisting students with information on available financial aid; tutoring and supplemental instruction (SI) assistance; facilitating problem resolutions between faculty and students; assisting students with registering for classes; and assisting students with transfer information to four year institutions.

This position provides a support service to the Academic Dean, Department Chair, and Program Director to identify need for transfer and develop pathways with four year institutions and assist with reverse transcripts from four year institutions.

Participate in program marketing and recruitment. Excellent oral and written communications skills required as well as interpersonal skills to support interaction with staff and/or students from various backgrounds. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree.

One (1) year related experience in Higher Education with Student Services or Career and Technical Programs.

Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Records maintenance skills.

Ability to gather, compile, analyze, and evaluate data and prepare reports.

Ability to maintain calendars and schedule appointments.

Ability to use independent judgement and to manage confidential information.

Ability to identify and solve problems.

Ability to develop statistical information spreadsheets, graphs, and charts, to demonstrate program growth and retention.

Ability to conduct student oriented workshops.

Basic computer skills especially in Microsoft Office Products and Adobe Products.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of academic policies and procedures.

Knowledge of student recruitment and retention issues.

Ability to analyze and evaluate course prerequisites, certifications, curriculum, and graduation requirements.

Ability to evaluate student transcripts and/or records for proper student course placement.

Knowledge in interpreting the College’s core curriculum catalog.

Knowledge of affiliated fields in the building industry.

Understanding of the College’s general admissions requirements; financial aid requirements; Architectural/Drafting Technology program requirements; and academic support services.
