Position Summary:

The Engineer provides leadership support for custodial and preventative maintenance operations performed on 1st shift. Position has responsibilities for conducting building operations, custodial cleanliness, minor maintenance and activity support. Provides leadership over the district’s day-to-day operations in their assigned building by maintaining a clean, sanitary, orderly and safe workplace. Engineers perform all aspects of Preventative maintenance, light mechanical and cleaning operations completing proper forms and schedules, operation of equipment in a safe manner. Custodians maintain an assigned cleaning area and perform to standards of care established by the Office of Operations.

Essential Functions

  • Prioritize work orders; assigns duties and work orders; outlines work methods; directs work in process; trains staff; reviews completed work; monitors absences; conducts employee evaluations and provides ongoing formative feedback; takes or recommends disciplinary action as needed.
  • Collaborates with supervisors to ensure work performed does not interrupt instruction or school/ office operations. Attends to emergencies when necessary following established protocols.
  • Orders necessary supplies following district procurement procedures and maintaining an accurate up-to-date inventory record's. Instructs staff on proper procedures for storing, utilize and documenting inventory. Advises and makes recommendations on cost of service/s for equipment and projects to ensure effective and efficient resource utilization.
  • Supports the effective and efficient operation of the RUSD electronic facility management system, ensuring dashboard metrics reflect best practices and current district needs, ongoing data quality and data utilization to inform decision-making.
  • Coordinates and performs all phases of preventive maintenance on heating, ventilating, electrical, life safety and other building related equipment.
  • Understands, operates, monitors and schedules building automation using BAS to effectively ensure both maximum efficiency and occupant comfort.
  • Performs daily monitoring, testing and operation of boilers and related equipment.
  • Plans and directs the staffing, scheduling, inventory, cleaning and maintenance of their assigned building and grounds.
  • Coordinates and assists with the setup of facilities for meetings, classes, conferences, events, etc. and develops alternate cleaning schedules to cover for vacancies internally.
  • Monitor state of building to detect and anticipate issues and problems that may arise and takes corrective action.
  • Submits work orders to correct building mechanical, structural, life safety and support conditions.
  • Requisitions, receiveing and accounts for equipment, materials and supplies.
  • Maintains adequate inventory levels.
  • Coordinates building snow removal and deicing activities to ensure student, staff and public safety. Cares for lawns and shrubs; cleans sidewalks and driveways.
  • Develop, coordinate and perform summer cleaning activities including summer school and deep cleaning
  • Cleans and sanitizes restrooms/bathrooms; dusts, and wipes furniture; sweep, mop, and/or vacuum floors; washes walls and equipment; empty/clean trash and recycling receptacles; replace light bulbs; refill restroom dispensers.
  • Strips, cleans, buff and applies floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors, vacuum and shampoo carpets.
  • Uses, maintain and safely operates assigned power equipment and hand tools; buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high pressure washers, high speed buffers and vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, furniture, etc.
  • Locks and unlocks assigned buildings: secures building when facilities are not in use checking for unlocked doors and windows, reports any unauthorized occupants, turns off lights.
  • Move furniture, equipment, supplies and tools on an incidental basis; washes accessible interior and exterior windows; cleans blinds; and launders cleaning rags and dust mops.
  • Maintains clean and organized storage areas for tools, cleaning equipment and supplies.
  • Takes classes as required in cleaning methods and techniques, new products, First Aid, CPR, and working relationships.
  • Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
  • Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position and actively supports the RUSD Strategic Plan.
  • Performs daily monitoring, testing, and operation of pools and related equipment, ensuring all required signage is properly displayed and pool logs are accurately completed.
  • Perform routine pool maintenance and oversee the ordering, inventory, and proper handling of all pool chemicals and related products.
