Director of Procurement & Supply Chain (Purchasing Director)
Location: Wilmington, DE
Employment Type: Direct Hire (Full-Time)
Schedule: Onsite, Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Compensation: $150,000 – $175,000 annually
Role Overview
This is a senior leadership position responsible for developing and executing companywide procurement strategies for a growing construction company. The Director will lead all purchasing and supply chain functions, drive cost control across projects and operations, build high-impact vendor relationships, and oversee procurement teams. This role balances strategic planning with hands-on execution while collaborating closely with operations, finance, and executive leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Procurement & Planning
- Develop and implement enterprise-wide procurement strategies focused on cost efficiency, consistency, and operational support.
- Standardize purchasing processes and best practices across multiple locations.
- Monitor commodity trends, market conditions, and supply chain risks to inform sourcing decisions.
Supplier & Vendor Management
- Build and maintain strong senior-level relationships with national and regional suppliers.
- Lead negotiations on pricing, terms, contracts, and agreements to secure favorable outcomes.
- Manage supplier performance, rebate programs, and incentives.
Contract, Systems & Risk Oversight
- Review and manage supplier contracts for compliance, risk mitigation, and value.
- Evaluate and implement procurement tools, systems, and innovations for better visibility and efficiency.
- Support budget planning and aggressive cost-control initiatives related to materials and services.
Leadership & Team Development
- Directly lead, mentor, and develop procurement and purchasing teams.
- Establish performance standards, training programs, and consistency across the procurement function.
- Drive collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Experience: 8+ years of progressive leadership in procurement, supply chain, or sourcing, with a proven track record in construction, manufacturing, or another project-based industry.
- Track Record: Demonstrated success in vendor negotiations, large-scale contract management, cost savings initiatives, and building high-performing procurement teams.
- Skills: Exceptional negotiation and relationship-building abilities, strong analytical and strategic thinking, excellent communication, and the ability to influence at the executive level.
- Technical Knowledge: Experience with procurement systems, inventory management, multi-site operations, and supply chain optimization. Familiarity with construction materials and project-based purchasing is highly preferred.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Finance, or a related field. Professional certifications (CPSM, CSCP, etc.) are a strong plus.
