Senior Account Manager
Who We Are
KC Ventures works with some of Australia’s most promising startups, helping them with everything across Finance, Operations and Strategy to guide them through their journey to scale.
The KC Ventures team is unlike any other accounting team; we are Founders and operators of high-growth businesses who understand first-hand what it takes to build and grow. We work alongside founders to help map out their journey and scale faster.
Since launching in late 2023, KC Ventures has grown significantly and now works with more than 60 of Australia’s most exciting startups and scaleups. We like to move fast and get stuff done.
The Opportunity
This could be one of the most unique accounting roles in the country. We’re looking for a Senior Account Manager with a strong foundation in Australian accounting who is ready to use those skills as a springboard into broader advisory and operational work.
You’ll be working with an experienced team and gain hands-on exposure to challenging, fast-moving projects across some of Australia’s most interesting startups. In a single day you could go from helping an AI startup prepare for their next capital raise, to working with a deep-tech robotics company on their financial forecast, to wrapping up by producing a metrics report for a SaaS Founder to present to their board.
This role sits at the intersection of accounting rigour and startup advisory. The books need to be right, and once they are, there’s no limit to the value you can add.
Location: North Sydney (between metro and train station)
Work Arrangement: 3-4 days in office, with flexibility
What You'll Do
Own month-end close for your clients
Manage end-to-end month-end close across your client portfolio, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and ensuring financial statements are accurate and delivered on time every reporting period.
Handle Australian compliance obligations
Prepare and lodge BAS, IAS, ATO obligations, income tax estimates, superannuation, and payroll tax accurately and on time. Keep clients ahead of their compliance calendar so nothing is ever a last-minute scramble.
Manage Xero files end-to-end
Own the day-to-day management of client Xero files including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger maintenance, and bank reconciliations. Clean books are the foundation of everything we do.
Prepare work papers and financial reports
Compile work paper files each reporting period and produce monthly management accounts including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements. Ensure financials give founders a clear and accurate picture of their business.
Support year-end and audit preparation
Prepare year-end working papers and reconcile accounts in readiness for tax returns. Liaise with external accountants as required to ensure a smooth year-end close.
Be a trusted point of contact for founders
Act as a key day-to-day contact for your client relationships. Provide clear, timely updates on financial position, compliance obligations, and any issues; building the kind of trust that lets founders focus on building their business.
Support special projects
As you grow into the role, contribute to broader advisory work including financial modelling, capital raise preparation, board reporting, and metrics dashboards; working directly with the KC Ventures team on client engagements.
Attend CFO advisory meetings
Join CFO advisory meetings with clients as required, supporting the senior team and building your exposure to high-level strategic conversations.
What Makes You the Right Fit
You’re grounded in Australian accounting
You have a solid understanding of GST, BAS, PAYG, superannuation, and payroll tax. You know your way around the ATO and you’re confident managing lodgement deadlines across multiple clients simultaneously.
You take accuracy seriously
You understand that reliable advice starts with reliable numbers. You check your work, spot issues quickly, and hold yourself to a high standard without needing to be asked.
You can juggle competing priorities
You manage your workload proactively, flag issues early, and keep multiple clients moving at once without letting anything fall through the cracks.
You’re comfortable working directly with founders
You can communicate clearly and confidently with busy, opinionated people. You know when to push back, when to ask questions, and when to just get on with it.
You want more than compliance
You have ambitions beyond the books. You’re curious about how businesses grow, interested in strategy and capital, and excited by the idea of eventually sitting at the table for those bigger conversations.
You move fast and get stuff done
Startups don’t wait. You’re energised by pace, comfortable with ambiguity, and you take ownership of your work rather than waiting to be told what to do next.
You’re keen to build and utilise the latest tools
Much like the startups we are working with, we are on our own journey of how we can utilise AI and the latest tools to help us provide a better service for our clients. You’ll be involved in helping identify and deploy new tech to help us scale.
