Position Description:We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented CAD Technician I to support civil and electrical engineering design projects in Pittsburgh, PA. This is an excellent opportunity for an entry-level drafting professional looking to grow their career in computer-aided design (CAD), substation design, and utility engineering.
In this role, you will develop and modify technical drawings using AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, supporting engineering teams with high-quality design documentation. You will gain hands-on experience producing engineering drawings for substations, relay systems, transmission lines, and related infrastructure projects while working in a collaborative, team-driven environment.
This position is ideal for candidates looking to build technical expertise, increase drafting independence, and grow within a structured engineering setting.
Key Responsibilities:Create and revise engineering drawings using AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
Produce diagrams, schematics, layouts, and multi-view drawings to scale
Develop foundation plans, grounding plans, structural/steel drawings, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams
Prepare one-line diagrams, AC/DC drawings, and equipment arrangement drawings
Interpret engineering sketches, specifications, and technical data
Perform basic mathematical and geometrical calculations to support design accuracy
Maintain drawing files and engineering documentation
Support engineers and senior designers with project deliverables
Revise drawings based on internal and client feedback
High school diploma or equivalent required
1–2 years of technical school training in drafting/design technology or equivalent practical experience
Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
Strong PC skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
Understanding of drafting standards and engineering drawing principles
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities
Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment
Experience producing engineering-quality drawings in civil or electrical environments
Exposure to utility, substation, or infrastructure design projects
Familiarity with documentation control and CAD standards
