General Job Summary

The Learning Assistant (LA) supports students' academic success and fosters a positive learning environment. The LA will work closely with learners to enhance instruction and provide individualized assistance. The schedule for individual Learning Assistants is variable and based on student demand.

Duties/Responsibilities

Customer Service

  • Provide subject matter support to learners as well as general study skills
  • Serve as a mentor and role model for learners
  • Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment
  • Refer learners to appropriate resources and support services as needed
  • Maintain accurate records of learner attendance and participation.
  • Provide one-on-one assistance to learners struggling with course concepts.
  • Answer learner questions and clarify course content.

Performance Expectations

Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications

  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Regular and consistent attendance at work
  • Exhibit a high degree of integrity and confidentiality
  • Attention to detail and strong time management and organizational skills
  • Willing to learn and adapt to new policies, programs, and technological innovations
  • Be able and willing to represent the college positively with prospective, former, and current learners, clients, and the community we serve.

Physical Activities With/Without Reasonable Accommodation

The position involves sitting often in an office setting (frequently 34-66%). Constant (67-100%) talking and listening to people in person, viewing a computer screen, and other types of close visual work. Occasional (10-33%) stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, pushing, pulling, and lifting. Frequent (34-66%) walking, grasping and repetitive motion.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Earned a B+ or better in the course, providing study support for
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA or a faculty member’s recommendation

Preferred Qualifications, Licenses, Certifications, Or Registrations

  • Experience as a tutor, academic coach, or learning assistant
