Position Description
North County School District is seeking a motivated and student-focused Adult Education & Literacy (AEL) Instructor to teach evening HiSET/GED preparation classes. Night classes are typically held MondayThursday, with opportunities to teach 14 evenings per week based on availability and program needs. We serve St. Francois, Iron, Madison, Washington, and Ste. Genevieve Counties.
Job Summary
Adult Education & Literacy instructors work collaboratively as part of a teaching team to deliver instruction in five core subject areas:
- Language/Writing
- Reading
- Math
- Science
- Social Studies
Instructors use a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs, promote student engagement, and support measurable student success. Teaching responsibilities include both individualized instruction and small group lessons.
Professional Expectations
- Work collaboratively as a member of a teaching team
- Maintain a student-centered, professional learning environment
- Complete 20 hours of professional development annually
- Attend required certification trainings within 60 days of hire:
- Pre-Certification Workshop (PCW)
- Beginning Teacher Assistance Program (BTAP)
- Maintain a minimum of 100 instructional hours per year to retain AEL certification
- Participate in a two-year mentorship program
- Bachelor's degree in any field
- Willingness to obtain Adult Education Certification (2-day training provided by NCSD AEL)
All AEL instructors report to the Adult Education & Literacy Director.
