This role is ideal for a Project Manager who prefers to coordinate disciplines and manage owner relationships, rather than lead or produce technical design. While projects are architectural in nature, this role does not require design leadership or technical team management. Instead, you will work alongside architects and engineers who retain responsibility for technical direction and design quality.
You will act as the central point of accountability for project delivery ensuring clear communication between the owner, internal disciplines, and external consultants, and keeping projects aligned with contractual, financial, and schedule commitments.
What You Will Do
Project Management & Owner Coordination
- Lead projects from initiation through closeout, managing scope, schedule, budget, and risk.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the owner, ensuring expectations are clearly defined, documented, and managed throughout the project lifecycle.
- Establish and maintain project work plans, schedules, and delivery strategies.
- Coordinate project communications between the owner, internal disciplines, and external consultants.
- Track project progress and proactively address issues related to scope changes, budget impacts, and schedule risks.
- Coordinate the inputs of architectural, engineering, and specialty consultants to support timely and coordinated project delivery.
- Facilitate interdisciplinary alignment and information flow without directing or producing technical design.
- Manage the review and circulation of drawings and deliverables at key milestones (SD, DD, Tender, IFC) for schedule, completeness, and contractual alignment not technical authorship.
- Support permitting and approvals by coordinating submissions and responses with Authorities Having Jurisdiction.
- Administer construction contracts in accordance with applicable legislation and best practices, including CCDC contracts (CCDC 2, 5A/B, 14, 30, etc.).
- Manage construction‑phase processes including RFIs, submittals, change documentation (PCNs, COs, CDs), and general correspondence.
- Coordinate site meetings, field reviews, and reporting in collaboration with the design professionals responsible for technical oversight.
- Review contractor payment applications and coordinate certification for payment and substantial performance.
- Support project closeout, including deficiency management and documentation coordination.
- Monitor and manage project financial performance, including fee tracking, forecasting, and change management.
- Coordinate with accounting teams on invoicing, AR/AP, and percent‑complete tracking.
- Manage schedules and resourcing to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and within agreed constraints.
- Maintain strong owner relationships that support repeat work and long‑term partnerships.
- Contribute to proposals, fee development, and interviews from a project delivery and risk‑management perspective.
- Work collaboratively with architects, engineers, and discipline leads who retain responsibility for technical design and quality.
- Support junior PMs and project coordinators through mentorship on project controls, communication, and delivery best practices.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of project management standards and tools.
- A degree or diploma in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field.
- 10+ years of experience in project management or related roles, with a focus on overseeing complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
- Proven experience with contract administration and construction‑phase project management.
- Enrolment in or completion of PMP, and licensure with OAA or PEO would be considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of the architectural and engineering project lifecycle
- Thorough knowledge of Canadian/Ontario and other relevant codes and standards (i.e. NBC, ESC, CSA, IES, IEEE, NFPA, ASHRAE).
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to devise practical and economical solutions.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish effective working relationships.
- Superb communication, time management and multi-tasking skills, with a strong emphasis on attention to detail
