Senior Business Analyst, FX & Payments

Calculated Hire is seeking a Senior Business Analyst to support a large financial institution within a Corporate & Investment Banking / investment banking environment. This role will support FX and payments-related initiatives tied to cash management, settlements, reconciliation, SWIFT/payment messaging, and trade lifecycle workflows.

This is a hands-on Business Analyst role with a heavy testing/UAT component. This is not a Product Owner or Project Manager role. The consultant will work directly with operations and business teams to gather requirements, translate requirements into JIRA/user stories, support test scripts and UAT, track defects, obtain business sign-off, and help move work into production.

Responsibilities

• Gather requirements from operations, business, and technology stakeholders for FX and payments-related initiatives.
• Translate business requirements into functional documentation, JIRA user stories, acceptance criteria, and process flows.
• Support projects involving payments, SWIFT/payment messaging, settlements, reconciliation, cash management, and trade lifecycle workflows.
• Partner with technology teams to ensure requirements are understood and accurately developed.
• Support testing activities including test script creation, test case execution, UAT coordination, defect tracking, validation, and business sign-off.
• Work with operations teams to validate payment flows, exception scenarios, reconciliation processes, and production readiness.
• Assist with documentation, traceability, release readiness, and post-implementation validation.
• Communicate risks, defects, and open items clearly across business, operations, technology, and QA teams.
• Required Skills
• Strong Business Analyst experience within banking, financial services, capital markets, or investment banking.
• Payments experience, ideally across wires, SWIFT, ISO 20022, ACH, Fedwire, CHIPS, RTP, FedNow, or cross-border payments.
• Exposure to FX, settlements, reconciliation, cash management, trade lifecycle, or payment operations.
• Hands-on experience gathering requirements and translating them into JIRA user stories and acceptance criteria.
• Experience supporting UAT, test scripts, test cases, defect tracking, validation, and business sign-off.
• Ability to work directly with operations teams and technology partners.
• Strong documentation, communication, and analytical skills.

Required Qualifications

• 4+ years of Business Analyst experience within banking, financial services, payments, capital markets, or related environments.
• Experience working in JIRA, Confluence, or similar Agile/project tracking tools.
• Experience supporting requirements and testing within technology-enabled business projects.
• Ability to work hybrid onsite in Charlotte, NC.
• Comfortable joining a fast-moving project and ramping quickly.

Preferred Qualifications

• SWIFT messaging knowledge, including exposure to MT103, MT202, MT300, MT900, MT940, MT942, or related payment message types.
• Experience with ISO 20022, MT/MX messaging, payment message validation, or payment flow testing.
• Experience with MTS, Swift Alliance, Flexcube, Calypso, or similar banking/payment platforms.
• Experience with Nostro reconciliation, payment exceptions, OFAC/sanctions screening, or payment investigations.
• Cash management or treasury payments experience.
