This full‑time position offers a salary of $85,000-$90,000 along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes major medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 403(b) retirement plan, short‑ and long‑term disability, AD&D coverage, ASPCA pet insurance, a DoorDash discount, 20 days of paid time off per year, 12 paid holidays, and one floating holiday.

The Financial Accounting & Reporting Analyst is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and completeness of financial records for United Way. This role plays a critical part in financial accounting, reporting, and compliance, including maintaining the general ledger, supporting month-end and year-end close processes, and ensuring accurate reporting of restricted and unrestricted funds. The role requires strong technical accounting skills, attention to data integrity, and the ability to work across complex funding and cost allocation structures

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations, maintain accurate and complete financial records, and retain supporting documentation to ensure audit readiness
  • Support external audits and compliance reviews by preparing schedules and documentation, and contribute to the continuous improvement of financial processes and controls
  • Assist with annual budget and forecast preparation, including variance analysis as requested, and collaborate with program and finance teams on financial planning and reporting
  • Review, code, and process vendor invoices and employee reimbursements, ensuring proper allocation to funds, cost centers, and grants
  • Support cash management activities, including coordinating transfers between accounts or funds, monitoring daily cash balances, and maintaining adequate liquidity for operational and program needs

Qualifications

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles
  • Proficiency in accounting software, including Blackbaud Financial Edge, and advanced capabilities in Microsoft Office 365, particularly Excel and data analysis tools
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, analyze complex data sets, and manage multiple priorities in a deadline‑driven environment

Education And Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • Five or more years of accounting or finance experience, preferably within a nonprofit or grant‑funded environment
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze financial data effectively using accounting systems and Excel

Work Environment and Location

This is a hybrid position with a mix of remote work and onsite presence at the Detroit, MI office.

Salary: $85000 - $90000 per year
