About the Role: The Test Engineer is responsible for designing, building, maintaining, and improving laboratory test systems, fixtures, instrumentation, and infrastructure that support engineering development and innovation activities. This is a highly hands-on role that combines mechanical design, fabrication, automation, instrumentation, and testing. The successful candidate will thrive in a laboratory environment and enjoy solving practical engineering challenges.
Responsibilities:
Laboratory Equipment & Test Fixture Development
- Design, build, modify, and validate custom test fixtures, laboratory equipment, and experimental setups.
- Develop creative solutions to unique testing and measurement challenges.
- Create mechanical designs, drawings, and assemblies using CAD software.
- Identify, source, and procure components required to support laboratory projects and testing activities.
Instrumentation, Automation & Controls
- Select and integrate sensors, instrumentation, actuators, and control hardware.
- Configure and maintain DAQ systems used for automated testing and data collection.
- Develop and support motion control, automation, and electro-mechanical systems.
- Implement emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools, that improve testing and data analysis.
Testing & Engineering Support
- Execute laboratory tests and collect accurate, repeatable data.
- Troubleshoot test equipment, instrumentation, and laboratory systems.
- Prepare concise technical reports and documentation.
Laboratory Operations
- Maintain laboratory equipment, utilities, and infrastructure.
- Recommend improvements to laboratory capabilities, equipment, and processes.
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree, Bachelor's degree, technical certification, military technical training, or equivalent hands-on experience in engineering, engineering technology, mechatronics, automation, electronics, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in a laboratory, R&D, testing, automation, or technical development environment.
- Experience designing and building custom fixtures, equipment, or test systems.
- CAD proficiency with SolidWorks preferred.
- Experience with instrumentation, sensor integration, and DAQ systems.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on fabrication, assembly, and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to independently identify, source, and procure components needed to solve technical challenges.
