Software Development Engineer in Test

We are looking for:

• A Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join our QA function and play a hands-on role in building quality into the software development lifecycle.
• This is a technical QA role for someone who enjoys automation, problem-solving and understanding how systems work end-to-end.
• You will work as part of an Agile, nearshore engineering team, collaborating closely with Developers, QA Leads, Product Owners and other stakeholders. You will be responsible for designing and implementing automated testing across UI, API and integration layers, helping ensure reliable and high-quality software releases.
• The role is particularly suited to someone who can look beyond individual features and understand how different services, APIs, databases, events and integrations work together.

What you will do:

• Design and implement end-to-end test strategies covering multiple components, services and integration points.
• Create and maintain automated tests using C# / Playwright / NUnit across UI and API layers.
• Develop functional, integration, system, exploratory and regression test coverage.
• Analyse business requirements and acceptance criteria and translate them into effective test scenarios.
• Identify suitable test cases for automation and build maintainable regression test suites.
• Validate end-to-end user journeys across UI, APIs and downstream services.
• Test integrations and asynchronous flows involving message queues and event-driven architectures.
• Work with application logs and monitoring tools to investigate failures and understand system behaviour.
• Use Azure Application Insights and KQL to trace requests, identify errors and support defect investigation.
• Design and execute data-driven test scenarios, using multiple datasets, boundary values and equivalence classes.
• Create and maintain BDD scenarios using Gherkin, working with frameworks such as SpecFlow or Cucumber.
• Perform API testing using tools such as Postman and Newman.
• Contribute to non-functional and performance testing activities.
• Work with containerised environments using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Support testing within CI/CD pipelines, including Azure DevOps Pipelines and GitHub Actions.
• Analyse test execution results and provide clear reporting on quality, risks, defects and blockers.
• Participate in defect triage and collaborate closely with Developers, DevOps and Product teams.
• Contribute to Sprint Planning, refinement sessions, daily stand-ups, Sprint Reviews and retrospectives.
• Provide accurate estimations for testing activities and ensure assigned work is delivered within Sprint timelines.
• Participate in peer reviews and contribute to improving automation frameworks, testing practices and QA standards.
• Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry practices, including the use of AI and agentic engineering practices within the SDLC.
• Proactively identify quality risks and suggest improvements to the development and testing process.

What you need to have:

• Proven experience working as an SDET, Automation Engineer, QA Automation Engineer or similar technical QA role.
• Strong hands-on experience with C# and Playwright.
• Experience writing automated tests using NUnit.
• Strong experience with UI and API automation.
• Good understanding of end-to-end testing and system-level thinking.
• Experience working in an Agile / Scrum software delivery environment.
• Experience with test planning, test case design, execution and reporting.
• Strong knowledge of software testing methodologies and automation best practices.
• Experience with API testing, ideally using Postman/Newman.
• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines.
• Understanding of event-driven architectures and asynchronous testing.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience working with application logs and monitoring tools.
• Knowledge of Azure Application Insights and KQL is highly desirable.
• Experience with BDD / Gherkin / SpecFlow / Cucumber.
• Experience with data-driven testing and test data management.
• Exposure to performance and non-functional testing.
• Experience with test management and defect tracking tools such as Azure DevOps, TestRail or Jira.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate complex technical issues.
• Ability to work independently, manage priorities and proactively raise blockers.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
• A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field.
• ISTQB/ISEB Foundation certification is advantageous.
• Previous experience within financial services is desirable.
