About us

TEKsystems Global Services (TGS) provides a continuum of services, from capacity-based solutions to the full outsourcing of Digital Transformation and Enterprise Modernisation programmes. Our solutions help customers access the specialist capabilities and scale needed to achieve their technology goals while retaining ownership of their business outcomes.

As our EMEA business continues to grow, we are continuing to build our technology capability in Budapest and are looking for an experienced Technical Service Manager to join our team.

Why this role is interesting

This is a newly established Technical Service Manager role within our TGS Practice Delivery organisation, combining technical delivery, Agile ways of working, stakeholder management and service/engagement ownership.

You’ll work closely with technical development teams, consultants, customers and internal stakeholders to ensure successful delivery across one or more projects or engagements. You’ll need enough technical depth to understand software development challenges, challenge assumptions, troubleshoot issues at a high level and communicate effectively with technical teams.

This is not a traditional direct people-management role. Success in this position will come from technical credibility, leadership through influence, strong communication and the ability to establish effective processes and ways of working.

You’ll also have the opportunity to help shape the TSM model itself — establishing processes, delivery standards and ways of working from the ground up and potentially supporting the model as the function grows.

What you’ll do

Technical & Delivery Management

  • Take ownership of delivery across one or more technical projects/engagements, ensuring scope, deliverables and customer expectations are met.
  • Work closely with technical development teams and pods to manage day-to-day delivery cadence.
  • Understand the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and use your technical background to identify and resolve delivery challenges.
  • Support teams with blockers, dependencies, risks and technical delivery issues.
  • Facilitate Agile ceremonies and delivery processes, including stand-ups, sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives and Kanban-based workflows where appropriate.
  • Work with Jira/Kanban boards and other delivery tools to maintain visibility of progress, dependencies and risks.
  • Establish and improve delivery processes and ways of working, including where teams are transitioning from Waterfall to Agile.
  • Collaborate with technical leads, developers, QA and other delivery functions to ensure applications are successfully developed, tested and productionised.
  • Understand Statements of Work (SoWs), contractual requirements, scope and deliverables, ensuring delivery remains aligned with customer commitments.
  • Identify, manage and mitigate delivery risks throughout the engagement.
  • Provide engagement status, delivery and risk reporting to relevant stakeholders.
  • Support continuous improvement across delivery processes and team ways of working.

Customer & Stakeholder Management

  • Act as a key point of contact between TGS, customers, consultants and technical delivery teams.
  • Build strong relationships with customer stakeholders and understand their delivery requirements and expectations.
  • Communicate delivery status, risks, issues, dependencies and opportunities clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Establish appropriate escalation paths and ensure issues are addressed effectively.
  • Participate in account planning and engagement discussions alongside Account Managers and other internal stakeholders.
  • Facilitate collaboration between customers, consultants and TGS Practice teams.
  • Support Monthly/Quarterly Business Reviews and other customer reporting activities.

Leadership & TSM Model Development

  • Lead delivery activities through influence, technical credibility and expertise rather than direct line management.
  • Act as a technical and delivery SME for the Technical Service Manager model.
  • Help establish and continuously improve TSM processes, frameworks, tools and ways of working.
  • Build processes from scratch and operate confidently in an environment where the operating model is still evolving.
  • Share delivery best practices, technical recommendations and lessons learned across consultant and delivery communities.
  • Support the development and scaling of the TSM function as the organisation grows.

Resource & Engagement Management

  • Work with recruiters and Account Managers to support consultant onboarding and offboarding.
  • Track resource requirements and consultant performance as required.
  • Coordinate onboarding/offboarding across customer and TGS IT environments.
  • Support timekeeping, delivery expectations and engagement processes.
  • Monitor engagement financials, revenue, cost and profitability where required.
  • Maintain engagement documentation, reporting, RAID logs and budgetary information.

What we’re looking for

Technical background

  • Previous software development experience is highly preferred — ideally having worked as a developer earlier in your career. This does not need to be your current role.
  • Experience working with one or more development technologies such as Java, .NET, Python, DevOps or scripting languages.
  • Experience with SQL and databases is preferred.
  • A strong understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Enough technical depth to understand development challenges, troubleshoot issues at a high level and ask the right technical questions.
  • Experience managing or coordinating technical teams through development, quality assurance, release and productionisation.
  • No specific technology stack or cloud platform is required.

Agile & Delivery

  • Strong hands-on experience with Agile delivery, particularly Scrum and/or Kanban.
  • Experience working within technical development teams or pods.
  • Practical experience managing delivery cadence, including stand-ups, sprints, Jira/Kanban boards, blockers and dependencies.
  • Experience introducing, establishing or transitioning teams towards Agile ways of working is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience working in or establishing Agile environments from scratch is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of managed services, delivery accountability, risk and customer expectations.

Leadership & Stakeholder Management

  • Strong thought leadership and influencing skills.
  • Ability to lead through influence, credibility and technical expertise rather than formal authority.
  • Strong stakeholder and customer management skills.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and listening skills.
  • Ability to work confidently with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively in an ambiguous environment and create structure where processes are not yet established.
  • Experience working with onsite, offshore, nearshore or distributed teams.

Nice to have

  • Experience with AWS, Azure or GCP.
  • Exposure to cloud migration, modernisation, hosting or transformation programmes.
  • Experience with application or data modernisation.
  • Agile, PMI, SAFe or PRINCE2 training/certifications.
  • AWS, Azure or GCP certification.
  • Professional Managed Services delivery experience.
  • Experience working across multiple customer engagements or accounts.
  • Experience coaching or supporting other delivery professionals.

What will make you successful

You’re a technically credible delivery professional who can speak comfortably with software engineers while also managing customer expectations and business stakeholders.

You understand how software gets built and delivered, but you’re not expected to be the person writing the code day-to-day. Instead, you use your technical background to understand challenges, ask the right questions, remove blockers and ensure teams are delivering effectively.

You’re comfortable working in Agile environments and understand what good delivery cadence looks like.

You can influence teams without relying on formal authority, build trust with customers and technical stakeholders, and bring structure to ambiguous situations.

You’re also comfortable building processes from scratch and helping define what a successful Technical Service Manager model should look like as the function develops.

What you’ll gain

  • The opportunity to help establish and shape a new Technical Service Manager function.
  • Exposure to complex technical delivery and managed services engagements.
  • Collaboration with software development, engineering and delivery professionals.
  • The opportunity to work across different technologies, teams and customer environments.
  • Exposure to cloud, application modernisation and digital transformation programmes.
  • The opportunity to influence Agile delivery practices and ways of working.
  • Potential to help scale the TSM model and support future TSMs.
  • Career-development opportunities within a growing international technology organisation.
