Position Summary:
We are looking for an Optical Measurements Systems Engineer to develop, test, integrate, and deploy optical measurement and machine vision systems used to inspect and measure Corning products.
You will work with engineering, quality, IT, purchasing, and manufacturing teams to move measurement technologies from development into production.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement optical, machine vision, and metrology systems.
- Work with cameras, optics, lighting, lasers, image acquisition, and 3D measurement systems.
- Transfer new measurement technology from development into manufacturing.
- Work with outside suppliers and system integrators on equipment development and installation.
- Create scopes of work, obtain quotes, manage suppliers, and track projects.
- Design experiments and analyze data to improve measurement systems and manufacturing processes.
- Create and maintain equipment specifications, operating procedures, drawings, and other production documentation.
- Train engineering, maintenance, and operations teams on measurement systems.
- Troubleshoot optical, electrical, mechanical, and software issues both remotely and onsite.
- Support system installation, checkout, testing, and deployment.
Required Education & Experience:
- BS/MS in Optics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field plus 3+ years of hands-on experience with machine vision and metrology equipment.
- OR PhD in one of the above fields.
- Hands-on experience with vision systems is required.

- C# and Python; Microsoft Visual Studio.
- Systems engineering and system integration.

- Electrical, optical, and mechanical equipment installation and troubleshooting.
- Data analysis and visualization using Microsoft Excel.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with HALCON, Matrox Inspector, NI Vision, Cognex, Keyence, or MATLAB Image Processing Toolbox.
- PLC/control systems.
- Process engineering and Design of Experiments (DOE).
- Statistical analysis and process improvement.
- Manufacturing metrology, inspection, and product quality.
- Motion control and integrating motion with imaging systems.
- High-performance computing.
- 3D measurement and processing, including:
- Point clouds
- Height maps
- Surface meshes
- 3D transformation
- Data registration/alignment
- Surface comparison
- Machine learning and deep learning, including developing and deploying models.
