The Wm. Michael Barnes ’64 Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISEN) in the College of Engineering at Texas A&M University invites applications for two full-time tenured/tenure-track positions. Applicants will be considered for the faculty titles of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor depending on qualifications and credentials. Applications are encouraged from candidates whose research aligns with the ISEN research fields, particularly Data Science and Engineering, and Human Factors and Ergonomics. Areas of particular interest include, but are not limited to, human factors and artificial intelligence, human-robot interaction, autonomy, cyber-physical human systems, generative AI, data quality and security, and foundational stochastic systems theories that support emerging learning paradigms. Candidates with interdisciplinary research programs that connect advanced analytics, intelligent systems, and engineering applications are especially encouraged to apply.

The ISEN department comprises 31 tenured and tenure-track faculty and 15 teaching-focused faculty, many of whom hold distinguished national and international honors, including the Frank and Lillian Gilbreth Industrial Engineering Award, the Albert G. Holzman Distinguished Educator Award, Fellow status in IISE, HFES, SME, ASME, and ASEE, and service leadership roles such as Editors-in-Chief of major journals. The department has strong and vibrant research programs in Advanced Manufacturing, Data Science, Human and Health Systems Engineering (Human Factors and Ergonomics), and Operations Research. The ISEN student population is comprised of 800 undergraduate students (sophomore to senior level) and 200 graduate students. More information about ISEN is available at https://engineering.tamu.edu/industrial.

Successful candidates will play a substantive role in teaching and curricular development. Responsibilities also include advising and mentoring graduate students, developing and sustaining an independent externally funded research program, participating actively in departmental governance and service, and contributing to the broader profession.

This is a 9-month academic appointment, with the possibility of additional summer support contingent upon need and availability of funds. The anticipated start date is Fall 2027.

Applicants must have an earned doctorate in industrial and systems engineering, or related engineering or scientific discipline. Applicants must demonstrate strong potential for or evidence of excellence in research, teaching, and service appropriate to rank, as well as the ability to contribute to the department’s strategic priorities.

Applicants must submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a personal statement (to include philosophy and plans for research, teaching, and service, as applicable), and a list of four references (including postal addresses, phone numbers and email addresses) by applying for this specific position at apply.interfolio.com/193335.

Application review will begin on Nov 1, 2026. It is anticipated that the appointment will begin in Fall 2027. For additional information regarding this position, please contact Dr. Maryam Zahabi at [email protected].
