Role: Business System Analyst (Accounting, Insurance, ERP)

Location: West Des Moines, Iowa – Onsite

Employment Type: Contract

Duration: 6–12 Months

Compensation: $49/hour W-2 | $54/hour C2C


Position Requirements:

This position requires a minimum of eight (8) years of relevant professional experience performing business systems analysis and related functions directly applicable to the responsibilities of this role, including experience across Accounting, Insurance, and ERP environments.


The position requires experience and knowledge in the following areas:

  • Strong Accounting Expertise including GL, sub-ledgers, reconciliations, month-end close, revenue recognition, and reserves.
  • Strong Insurance domain knowledge covering policy lifecycle, premium billing, claims, commissions, reinsurance structures, and statutory reporting.
  • Experience gathering and documenting requirements and translating them into system designs, process maps, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Experience with ERP and insurance platforms such as SAP FI/CO, Oracle Cloud/R12, Guidewire Billing/Policy/Claims, Duck Creek, or NetSuite.
  • Strong experience with SQL, Advanced Excel, data modeling, APIs/integrations, and reporting tools such as Power BI/Tableau.
  • Experience with system integration between policy, billing, claims, sub-ledgers, and General Ledger.
  • Experience creating and executing Unit, SIT, and UAT test plans, defect triage, remediation, and change control.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP), SOX, and state insurance regulations.
  • Strong analytical, root-cause analysis, process re-engineering, and control-design skills.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, stakeholder management, and project/change management skills.
  • Preferred experience with Data Warehouses, ETL, Informatica, and Azure Data Factory.


Position Responsibilities:

The position is responsible for supporting and partnering with Accounting, Finance, and Insurance Operations teams and performing the following responsibilities:

  • Partner with Accounting, Finance, and Insurance Operations teams to gather and document business requirements.
  • Analyze insurance workflows including policy administration, premium billing, claims accounting, commissions, and reinsurance settlements.
  • Support implementation, configuration, and testing of ERP and insurance platforms.
  • Design and validate integrations between policy, billing, claims, and General Ledger modules.
  • Build and optimize accounting processes for premium recognition, UPR, loss reserves, IBNR, claims payments, and commissions.
  • Implement system logic for treaty/facultative and proportional/non-proportional reinsurance, bordereaux, and settlements.
  • Partner with Actuarial and Underwriting teams on loss ratio, combined ratio, reserve-related data, and reporting.
  • Ensure data completeness, accuracy, and reconciliation across sub-ledgers and the GL.
  • Develop dashboards and financial/insurance KPIs, including written/earned premium, loss & LAE, and expenses.
  • Support NAIC statements, Schedule P, Schedule F, and management reporting.
  • Design and maintain internal controls and support audit requests and walkthroughs.
  • Document process controls, segregation of duties, and data lineage across systems.
  • Facilitate workshops, sprint planning, stakeholder alignment, and requirements.
