Indexed description

I’m working with a growing technology business looking for a Senior Software Architect to take ownership of their technical direction and help shape the next stage of their software architecture.

This is not a pure hands-on development role. They already have a strong development team; what’s missing is someone who can step back, look at the bigger picture, challenge existing approaches, and make sure the right architectural decisions are made before development begins.

The Role

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Owning and evolving the overall software architecture
  • Defining architecture patterns, principles, and technical standards for new development
  • Challenging existing solutions and making complex technical decisions
  • Improving and modernizing the core architecture
  • Designing and improving the testing architecture
  • Creating architectural proposals and supporting technical documentation
  • Acting as a senior technical escalation point for the development team
  • Providing guidance to developers on complex architectural and technical decisions
  • Helping shape the transition from the current architecture towards a more scalable, distributed setup

Technical Environment

  • Strong .NET / C# background
  • .NET 10 alongside legacy .NET Framework
  • Large monolithic application currently operating from a single repository
  • Ongoing move towards microservices and multiple repositories
  • Strong SQL / MySQL environment, with a move towards PostgreSQL and non-relational databases
  • A mixture of modern development alongside established legacy technology

What They’re Looking For

The key requirement is someone who has moved beyond simply delivering code and is comfortable taking ownership of architecture and technical direction.

You’ll ideally have:

  • Strong commercial experience as a Software Architect, Lead Developer or similar
  • Deep experience with .NET / C#
  • A strong understanding of software architecture and architectural patterns
  • Experience working with or moving away from large monolithic applications
  • The ability to challenge existing technical decisions and explain the reasoning behind alternatives
  • Experience defining technical standards and guiding development teams
  • Strong communication skills, particularly when working with senior developers and technical stakeholders
  • Exposure to AI and modern software architecture would also be a plus, as the business is increasingly looking at how AI can be incorporated into its products and technology landscape.
