Developer
Finance IT is looking for a Developer to join our rapidly expanding technology team to assist in the development of enterprise financial, approval, and integration systems. This is a great opportunity for a Developer to work closely with our Product Owners and collaborate with UK development teams to ensure we deliver business value whilst creating high-performing, scalable technology solutions.

The Finance dev team at NEXT Technology manages critical business-critical applications, approval workflows, and high-volume data integrations (including Accounts Payable and Stock Returns) that support global operations. This includes building modern APIs, user interfaces, serverless function processing, and high-throughput data integration pipelines between modern cloud services and core enterprise systems—all contributing to an automation-focused, fast-paced, and ever-changing technology environment.
About the Team
Working closely with the Lead Developers, Team Lead, Project Managers, UK development teams, and other team members on various projects, you will provide the high-quality programming and analytical skills needed to enhance and support the finance systems at Next.
About the Role
In this role, you will be heavily involved in the creation and enhancement of new and existing Finance applications and integration services using a wide range of technologies. You'll be providing analytical and programming skills across a range of platforms and translating business requirements into efficient code, database queries, and data pipelines.
- Developing, testing, and implementing code to team and IT industry standards whilst communicating effectively at all levels; within the Sri Lanka and UK teams, with business users, and other tech departments, etc.
- Writing robust unit tests and integration tests to maintain high code coverage, software quality, and prevent regressions in production.
- Creating, maintaining, and updating comprehensive technical documentation, including Low-Level Designs (LLDs), architecture diagrams, API specifications, and system integration guides.
- Collaborating closely with UK development teams to ensure seamless cross-site engineering alignment, shared standards, and knowledge transfer.
- Leveraging AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT) to optimize code quality, write automated tests, streamline troubleshooting, and accelerate delivery.
- You'll provide fault-finding expertise, performance tuning, and following issues through to their resolution as well as providing support as and when required to cover key business events and ensuring clear and concise documentation for a variety of audiences.
Essential Criteria
- 3 to 4 years of experience in software development.
- Strong capabilities in core technologies: C#, .NET 8 / .NET 10, ASP.NET Core, Web API, and Entity Framework Core.
- Experience in unit testing frameworks (e.g., xUnit, NUnit, MSTest) and mocking frameworks (e.g., Moq) to drive testable code architecture.
- Experience with Blazor or modern front-end web application development (React, Angular, or other modern frameworks).
- Proven experience with Cloud & Integration: Microsoft Azure, Azure Functions, and Azure Data Factory (ADF).
- Experience in developing AI Agentic systems
- Experience in creating clear, structured technical documentation (e.g., Low-Level Designs, technical specs, API docs).
- Experience implementing Security & Identity mechanisms using JWT.
- Strong grounding in Architecture & APIs: Clean Architecture, REST APIs, SOLID principles, Design Patterns, and Swagger/OpenAPI.
- Excellent database capabilities with SQL Server (T-SQL) and MySQL.
- Hands-on experience with DevOps & Quality tools: Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and Git source control systems.
- Practical exposure to or active experience using AI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, AI coding assistants) to increase engineering productivity and code quality.
- Good understanding of Agile software development methodologies.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, able to think outside of the box.
- Ability to work on your own initiative, to tight and often changing deadlines and priorities, but equally happy to work as part of an distributed global team.
- Proactively improve existing skills, taking on new technical skills as appropriate, and continuously seek to expand business knowledge.
- Excellent communication skills for cross-location collaboration with UK teams, and ability to work well under pressure and adversity.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience with AI solution integration (e.g., exposure to LLM APIs, automated invoice/document processing, Azure Cognitive Services, or predictive financial workflows).
- Experience working with VB.NET.
- Familiarity with Test-Driven Development (TDD) principles.
- Experience with Azure Service Bus for enterprise integration workflows.
- Hands-on experience with Entra ID (Azure AD) and OAuth 2.0 authentication models.
- Experience working with financial systems or Accounts Payable workflows.
- Familiarity with legacy data extract processes.
- Applied knowledge of agile, iterative, and waterfall development processes.
- Experience of using VeraCode or automated code security scanning tools.
