Job Summary
The Senior Software Engineer will lead embedded software development for medical device products, guiding architecture, design, implementation, testing, and integration throughout the software development lifecycle. This role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership, client collaboration, and cross-functional coordination while ensuring software meets FDA, IEC 62304, safety, and cybersecurity requirements.
Responsibilities
- Lead software requirements definition, architecture, design, development, testing, and integration.
- Collaborate with clients and cross-functional engineering teams across electrical, mechanical, systems, test, and quality.
- Lead and mentor software engineers through project planning, task delegation, and execution.
- Design, implement, debug, and test embedded software applications.
- Ensure architectural integrity, code quality, design robustness, safety, and cybersecurity.
- Develop project estimates and support software milestones, budgets, and deliverables.
- Drive Agile, feature-focused development and continuous process improvements.
- Contribute to internal software libraries, tools, and engineering initiatives.
Qualifications
- BS/MS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
- 5–9+ years of embedded software development experience in medical devices or another regulated industry, preferably in a technical leadership role.
- Strong experience with embedded Linux, SoMs, Yocto Project/BSP, and driver configuration.
- Proficiency in C, C++, and/or C# with strong knowledge of multithreading and multi-process applications.
- Experience with GUI development, preferably Qt/QML and MVC/MVVM/MVP patterns.
- Experience with microcontrollers, RTOS environments such as ThreadX, and device driver development.
- Strong expertise in software architecture, design, and unit, integration, and system testing.
- Familiarity with FDA regulations and IEC 62304, with an understanding of software safety and cybersecurity.
