The Database Administrator (DBA) operates within the IS Data Management team, reporting to the Director of Data Governance. The DBA will serve as a guide for system analysts, application owners, and data stewards on the IS team. Day to day activities include working with the Data Management and other IS teams and analysts to diagnose application, system, and workload performance issues, user data access, managing data authority and access, plan and review new/changing/existing database development, performance and volume testing, working with vendors, and reporting progress.


What you will do…


  • Provide Database Administration support to design, operate, maintain, optimize/tune, and document SQL Server.
  • Design, installation, operation, application of security policies, vulnerability analysis and remediation, and the documentation of current database environment and any future changes.
  • Isolate and resolve database problems within the enterprise.
  • Work independently and collaborate across IS teams to configure, install, maintain, troubleshoot, upgrade, and manage database components and related systems, ensuring reliable operations that support business objectives.
  • Provide database administration support for installing, configuring, maintaining security, installing patches, and performing necessary upgrades to keep all database platforms up-to-date and secure.
  • Maintain daily, weekly, and monthly operations by monitoring systems, resolving issues, and ensuring optimal performance and data availability.
  • Collaborate with other groups to form policy and procedures.
  • Provides specialized data management support to application owners and stakeholders, users and clients.
  • Utilize client and server management and performance tools for SQL Server
  • Define application problems by conferring with business, evaluating procedures and processes.
  • Troubleshoot client/server and application database connectivity
  • Supports business by training and providing support to drive best practices.
  • Design, build, and maintain high-availability solutions for SQL Server
  • Ability to provide off-hours support.
  • Ability to work a rotating on-call schedule.
  • Other duties as assigned.


What we are looking for in a candidate…


Education/Experience

  • High school diploma/GED required
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience is preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience working within Information Services or equivalent systems experience
  • 3 years of experience working with SQL Server, Oracle, IBM DB2 or similar RDBMS platforms -- operational experience supporting multiple enterprise production databases
  • 3 years of experience working with Microsoft 365 and Windows client and server operating systems
  • 2 years of experience writing and parsing T-SQL, data flow and transaction control flow
  • Experience with change management frameworks and processes
  • Experience supporting database platforms running on virtual and cloud infrastructures


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Familiarity with data structures, data dictionaries, documenting databases, data domains, technical writing, relational and non-relational databases, and PowerShell scripting
  • Familiarity with agile sprint process
  • General understanding of the data lifecycle and data management practices
  • Ability to recognize problems and implement system-based solutions
  • Strong critical thinking, decision making, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to learn, understand, and apply new technologies and development processes
  • Effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Understand high-availability architecture
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working solo
