Location: Remote (US-wide; East Coast / DC / Virginia area preferred)
Travel: 60%–70% regular field travel (deployments, demonstrations, and site visits)
Clearance: Active Top Secret required; TS/SCI strongly preferred
About the Opportunity
We are an innovative, fast-scaling autonomous maritime technology company pioneering next-generation subsea data systems, robotics, and hardware-software platforms. We partner with defense, government, and commercial partners to solve mission-critical problems in demanding operational environments.
We are seeking a high-aptitude Field Service Engineer (Customer & Technical Liaison) who excels at bridging real-world field operations with engineering and product teams. In this hands-on, high-impact role, you will be embedded with customer engineering, IT, and operational teams during major deployments, solve complex hardware/software challenges on-site, and translate field insights into actionable product improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Customer & Technical Liaison: Serve as the credible technical interface between end users and internal engineering, product, and operations teams.
- Field Deployments & Operations: Lead and support on-site system deployments, demos, and testing—collaborating shoulder-to-shoulder with customer engineering and operator personnel.
- Hardware & Software Troubleshooting: Rapidly diagnose and triage field issues, including power, networking, hardware components, and software behaviors in both standard and air-gapped customer environments.
- Feedback & Product Influence: Capture operational observations, usability feedback, and user requirements, translating them into structured updates for product roadmaps and engineering bug trackers.
- Technical Documentation & Runbooks: Own onsite field logs, service records, triage guides, runbook updates, and customer technical training workflows.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with sales and technical leads during customer discussions to provide real-world operational context without acting as a traditional salesperson.
What We Are Looking For
- Experience: 5–10 years in field engineering, systems engineering, technical support, solutions engineering, or field integration.
- Security Clearance: Active Top Secret clearance required (TS/SCI strongly preferred).
- Technical Core: Strong command-line interface (CLI) fluency, networking/IP fundamentals, and comfort troubleshooting physical hardware and power systems.
- Startup / Agile Mindset: Proven ability to operate autonomously in fast-paced, high-tempo environments with a get-it-done, mission-focused attitude.
- Communication: Exceptional customer-facing verbal and written communication skills; capable of explaining complex systems to operators, developers, and leadership alike.
- Travel Flexibility: Willing and able to travel 60%–70%, including multi-week stretches embedded on customer sites when required.
Highly Valued (Nice to Have)
- Technical degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Oceanography, or a related field.
- Hands-on familiarity with Linux hypervisors/systems administration, Windows Server, Proxmox, BMC/IPMI, or air-gapped deployments.
- Background in maritime systems, subsea technology, autonomous vehicles (AUVs/UUVs/ROVs), sensors, or hydrographic survey tooling.
- Military, maritime, or defense contracting operational experience.
