Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced engineer to architect and build a mission-critical card network reference data platform. This role requires deep, production-grade expertise across domain-driven design, distributed backend systems, event-driven architecture, identity/security architecture, and modern frontend micro-architecture. This is a hands-on technical leadership role — the candidate will set standards, not just follow them.

Key Responsibilities

Domain & Architecture

Apply domain-driven design to define bounded contexts, domain models, and aggregate boundaries for card network reference data

Establish a ubiquitous language shared across engineering and business stakeholders

Backend Development

Develop and harden a Spring Boot / JPA / PostgreSQL Aurora service with Liquibase-managed schema migrations

Build a Drools-based business rules engine integrated into broader workflows

Design and implement scheduled batch jobs

Design authorization and data access controls from the ground up where none exist today

Integration & Workflow

Design and own integration workflows and routing using Apache Camel, orchestrating multi-step stateful operations (request intake, validation, approval, publication pipelines)

Develop an event-driven backbone using Kafka — topic/schema design, producer/consumer reliability patterns, and integration with the rules engine and workflow layer

Frontend

Develop a micro-frontend application (Next.js / React / TypeScript) as an independently deployable system

Design its convergence path into a shared micro-frontend shell

Identity & Security

Own OAuth2/OIDC identity architecture end-to-end — Okta provider integration, JWT/token validation strategy, session/revocation design, and trust boundary decisions across environments

Design and govern AWS IAM policy, S3, and CloudFront architecture across multiple environments

Delivery & Quality

Lead deployment on static cloud platform

Drive test-driven development practice across the team

Build out continuous testing/automation pipelines (unit, contract, integration, end-to-end) as part of CI/CD

Required Expertise (Expert-Level / Production-Grade — Not Familiarity)

Domain-Driven Design — bounded contexts, aggregates, domain events; translating complex business domains into clean service boundaries

Java / Spring Boot — framework internals, security configuration, performance tuning

Drools — rule-set architecture, decision tables, integration into workflow execution

Apache Camel — route/processor design, error handling strategies for multi-step orchestration

Kafka / Event Bus Architecture — topic design, delivery guarantees, schema evolution, event-driven integration patterns

PostgreSQL / Aurora

Okta / Identity Architecture — designing token/session models from scratch, not just SDK integration

AWS IAM, S3, CloudFront — least-privilege IAM architecture design, independent troubleshooting of access issues

Static Cloud — expert-level operational experience

Next.js / React / TypeScript — including micro-frontend architecture patterns (module federation, multi-zone routing, or equivalent)

TDD & Continuous Automation — able to establish TDD discipline team-wide; build/own automated testing pipelines (unit, contract, integration, end-to-end) integrated into CI/CD
