Senior Product Engineer (CountX) - DC27

countX is JTL's tax compliance product (“Tax powered by countX”). It automates VAT registration, reporting, and filings for e-commerce sellers across Europe, working on high-volume transaction data from marketplaces such as Amazon and from the JTL ecosystem. We are in the middle of a cloud transformation: modernising our platform on the cloud (Azure and AWS) and integrating it more deeply with JTL's products.

As a Senior Product Engineer, you are both an engineer and a product owner. Half of the job is building: you design and ship features end to end, with a strong focus on the backend. The other half is product: you talk to stakeholders, turn their needs into a roadmap, define the KPIs that tell us whether we are succeeding, and decide what to build next. You drive initiatives completely autonomously — from spotting the opportunity to shipping it and measuring the outcome — with AI-assisted development (Claude Code) as your default way of working.

You will join the countX engineering team of 5 people, reporting to the hiring manager, Yan Braslavsky. You will work every day with engineers in Germany, with product and tax domain experts, and across teams at JTL involved in the cloud transformation. This role is one of two Product Engineers we are hiring in Ho Chi Minh City. The team works in English.

YOUR EXCITING TASKS

• Drive initiatives completely autonomously — identify the problem, frame it, plan it, ship it, and measure the result
• Own a product area's roadmap: gather input, prioritise, and keep the roadmap current and visible to stakeholders
• Define and track KPIs for your area, and use the data to decide what to build, change, or stop
• Manage stakeholders across countX and JTL — align expectations, communicate progress and trade-offs, and say no when needed
• Collaborate across teams (engineering, product, tax experts, other JTL teams) to deliver work that spans more than one system
• Design, build, and operate backend services, APIs, and data pipelines, and extend the frontend when the problem calls for it
• Contribute hands-on to the cloud transformation on Azure and/or AWS
• Think infrastructurally — make your services observable, set up alerting, and follow incidents through to root cause
• Use Claude Code and modern AI-assisted development workflows to deliver high-quality software faster

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, most of it on the backend
• Hands-on experience building and operating production systems on Azure or AWS (ideally both)
• Proven ability to drive initiatives completely autonomously, from idea to measurable outcome
• Product skills: stakeholder management, setting and tracking KPIs, building and maintaining roadmaps
• Experience collaborating across teams and functions to deliver shared outcomes
• Strong backend skills in a modern language (e.g. TypeScript / Node.js, Python) and solid SQL / data modelling
• System design thinking — you reason about trade-offs, boundaries, failure modes, and scale
• Hands-on use of Claude Code or similar AI-assisted development tools in your daily work
• Strong written and spoken English; comfortable working in a distributed team across Vietnam and Germany

• Experience with both Azure and AWS, or migrating existing systems to the cloud
• Infrastructure as Code (e.g. Bicep, Terraform, AWS CDK)
• Frontend experience with a modern framework (React / Next.js)
• Background in tax, VAT, accounting, fintech, or e-commerce / marketplace integrations
• Prior experience in a product owner, product manager, or tech lead role
• Exposure to compliance-aware environments (ISO 27001, SOC 2, GDPR)
