Responsibilities
- Write, review, and ship production-grade backend code regularly - this is a hands-on role
- Lead architectural decisions for your product area - APIs, databases, system design, infrastructure
- Own sprint planning, technical scoping, and delivery timelines for your team
- Mentor and grow a team of 4-5 backend engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and 1:1s
- Partner with Product to translate roadmap priorities into technical execution
- Drive engineering best practices - observability, testing, CI/CD, documentation
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, reliability issues, and technical debt proactively
Ideal Profile
- 6+ years of backend engineering experience with at least 1-2 years in a tech lead or senior engineering capacity
- Strong hands-on proficiency in any backend stack - Node.js, Java, Go, Python, or similar
- Deep understanding of distributed systems, microservices, REST APIs, and event-driven architecture
- Strong SQL and database fundamentals - schema design, query optimization, production-scale data handling
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred) and CI/CD practices
- Proven ability to lead technical delivery - not just delegate, but actively unblock and contribute
- Strong communication skills
