Software Engineering Manager

The Role
The Software Engineering Manager role focuses on the health, alignment, and output of the engineering team. You bring hands-on experience managing engineers and want a role where you can shape how a team grows and operates.
You'll work alongside a talented team and an architect who brings deep technical design expertise. You're the connective tissue between engineering strategy, execution, and product, ensuring what gets designed can be built on time, with the right people, in a sustainable way.
What You'll Own
Initiative ownership: Drive engineering initiatives across our application portfolio by coordinating workstreams, setting milestones, tracking progress, and keeping stakeholders informed without micromanaging.
Product partnership: Shape the roadmap and backlog with the product team so trade-offs are made consciously and the team builds the right things, not just builds things right.
Engineering operations: Define and evolve how work gets planned, reviewed, shipped, and supported. When something slows the team down, you'll notice and fix it.
Technical oversight: Review engineering decisions, ask sharp questions, and raise concerns. You'll partner with our architect on design, bringing enough depth to shape decisions and catch what others miss.
Team alignment: Keep engineering and product in sync, keep priorities clear, and surface blockers before they become problems.
People leadership: Set expectations, give feedback, and help each engineer grow toward where they're headed.
What We're Looking For
You've managed engineers and done serious engineering work yourself, so you can hold your own in a technical discussion by contributing, pushing back, and keeping the focus on the right needs. You use that experience to elevate the team's thinking.
As a manager, you give feedback that lands, run meetings that don't waste time, and create conditions where engineers can focus. You're consistent, direct, and genuinely interested in how your team is doing.
You're comfortable at the seam between product and engineering, and you know how to get both sides thinking together without slowing the team down.
You're organized and know the difference between busy and productive. You keep track of many moving parts without needing to control everything.
Experience with our stack helps: Python, FastAPI, Django, React, Next.js, PHP, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Terraform, and AWS. Breadth across the stack matters more than expertise in any one piece of it.
Why This Role
We're scaling quickly, and the roadmap is ambitious. This isn't a role for maintaining the status quo; you'll have real ownership over what the team builds and how it operates. If that energizes you, we'd like to talk.
