Indexed description

Are you a Laravel developer who enjoys building things properly, from the code itself through to the process around it? As well as being super organised? We'd love to hear from you.

A Bit About Us

Brunning & Price and Acorn Pubs look after around 90 pubs across England and Wales. We're known for good food, proper beer, bookshelves and dogs curled up under tables. Behind every one of those pubs sits a technology estate built largely in-house, and we're a hospitality business with a software team rather than a traditional IT department, which makes us a really interesting place to build your career.

The role

As we continue to grow, we're adding a senior developer to the team who can combine hands-on Laravel development with ownership of how we manage change, releases and secure coding practice across our products. It's a broad, hands-on role with real scope to shape how the team works as it grows.

You'll be involved in:

  • Building and maintaining our in-house Laravel applications, plus REST APIs and some iOS work
  • Owning release management and change control across our products, working closely with the rest of the team
  • Leading our secure development initiative: coding standards, tooling, threat modelling and vulnerability management
  • Translating requests from Operations, Finance, kitchens and Marketing into clear, well-sequenced work
  • Being the person our teams can rely on for a straightforward, plain-English answer

What We're Looking For

  • Strong commercial Laravel/PHP experience
  • Experience owning change control, release management or delivery process
  • Practical application security knowledge (secure code review, dependency and secrets hygiene)
  • Comfortable with Git, CI/CD and cloud deployment, ideally AWS
  • Clear written English and good judgement on when to move fast and when to slow down

Nice to have

iOS development (Swift/SwiftUI), a security or delivery qualification, hospitality or multi-site experience, and experience coding with AI tools.

Who You'll Be Working With

You'll join a small, capable software team with a wide remit and very little bureaucracy, as well as room to grow as the team expands.

Your bread and butter

  • Basic salary: circa £50,000 basic Plus 10% discretionary company performance bonus
  • Bupa private medical insurance and Aviva life assurance
  • Annual Leave: 25 days + 8 bank holidays
  • Working pattern: hybrid, 2 to 3 days a week in our Chester head office
  • Benefits: Full benefits suite including Virtual GP, Wellbeing support, and matched employer pension.
  • Progression: a clear path to grow with the team
  • Crew discount: 30% discount at B&P and Acorn Pubs and Wagamama
