Location: New York City, NY

Work Arrangement: Hybrid, 3 days per week onsite

Compensation: $210,000 - $280,000 base salary, depending on experience, plus RSUs

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with a strong backend focus to join our engineering team in New York City.

This is primarily a software engineering role, with an emphasis on designing and building scalable backend systems and product functionality. You will spend the majority of your time working on the core product and collaborating closely with other engineers and product stakeholders.

Because we are an AI-first organization, we are also looking for someone who has hands-on experience with LLMs, generative AI, or related AI technologies and is interested in applying those technologies to real-world software products.

The role will also include some customer-facing work. You may occasionally work directly with customers to understand technical requirements, troubleshoot issues, validate solutions, or help translate customer needs into product improvements.

What You'll Do

• Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs powering the core product.
• Develop production software primarily using Python and Django.
• Build and integrate APIs and services that support product functionality and AI-powered capabilities.
• Work with AWS to deploy, operate, and scale production applications.
• Contribute to JavaScript-based application development as needed.
• Design and implement reliable, maintainable, and scalable software systems.
• Work closely with product and engineering teams to turn requirements into production-ready software.
• Integrate and experiment with LLMs and other AI technologies as part of the product.
• Evaluate new AI capabilities and determine how they can be effectively incorporated into production applications.
• Debug complex technical problems across application and infrastructure layers.
• Participate in architecture and technical design discussions.
• Write well-tested, maintainable code and contribute to engineering best practices.
• Occasionally work directly with customers to understand technical problems, gather requirements, demonstrate solutions, and help resolve issues.
• Take ownership of projects from initial design through implementation, deployment, and ongoing improvement.

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong backend software engineering experience with Python.
• Production experience with Django or a comparable Python web framework.
• Experience building APIs and backend services for production applications.
• Experience with AWS and cloud-based application development.
• Experience with JavaScript or TypeScript and an understanding of modern web application architecture.
• Hands-on experience working with LLMs, generative AI, or related AI technologies.
• Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including system design, APIs, databases, testing, and application architecture.
• Experience taking software from development through production deployment.
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of significant technical projects.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, product, and customer-facing teams.

Nice to Have

• Experience building AI-enabled or AI-native software products.
• Experience working with LLM APIs such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar platforms.
• Experience with RAG, embeddings, vector databases, AI agents, tool calling, or related technologies.
• Experience with React or another modern frontend framework.
• Experience with Docker and CI/CD.
• Experience designing and operating highly available or distributed systems.
• Previous experience working directly with customers in a technical capacity.

You should enjoy solving problems where the answer isn't always obvious, be comfortable moving between backend engineering and AI experimentation, and have the judgment to determine when a quick prototype should become a production feature.
