Senior Python Engineer

DB Global Technology is Deutsche Bank’s technology centre in Central and Eastern Europe. We are looking for a Senior Python Engineer to join a technology team within the Credit Risk area, contributing to the development of scalable, reliable and customer-focused solutions for a regulated banking environment.

The role is primarily focused on strong software engineering and backend development in Python, while providing the opportunity to work with modern technologies, including cloud-native services and AI-enabled capabilities. You will work closely with engineers, architects, product owners and business stakeholders to design and deliver high-quality solutions that meet the bank’s standards for security, resilience, maintainability and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable, production-grade applications and services using Python.
• Contribute to the full software development lifecycle, from technical design and implementation through testing, deployment, monitoring and continuous improvement.
• Design and implement robust APIs and integrations with internal and external enterprise services.
• Apply strong software engineering practices, including clean code, automated testing, code reviews, performance optimisation and maintainable architecture.
• Work with cloud-native technologies and contribute to the development and adoption of solutions running on Google Cloud Platform.
• Collaborate with other engineers and technical stakeholders to define technical approaches, resolve complex engineering problems and ensure consistent implementation across solutions.
• Contribute to the development of data-driven and AI-enabled capabilities, including services that integrate with modern AI/LLM platforms and enterprise applications.
• Support the evolution of engineering practices around observability, reliability, CI/CD, automation and operational readiness.
• Work closely with cross-functional stakeholders across technology, product, operations and risk to understand requirements, manage dependencies and deliver solutions aligned with governance, security and regulatory expectations.
• Mentor less experienced engineers, contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives and actively support a culture of continuous technical improvement.

Skills

• Strong professional experience in Python software development, with a solid understanding of object-oriented design, software architecture and engineering best practices.
• Proven experience building and supporting production-grade backend applications, services and APIs.
• Strong knowledge of Python frameworks and libraries commonly used for backend development, such as FastAPI, Flask or Django.
• Good understanding of API design, distributed systems, asynchronous programming, testing and performance considerations.
• Experience working with cloud technologies, preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Familiarity with containerisation, CI/CD and Infrastructure-as-Code practices, such as Docker, GitHub Actions and Terraform, is highly desirable.
• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases and a good understanding of data modelling and integration patterns.
• Strong understanding of software development lifecycle, version control, automated testing, code review and production support.
• Experience working in Agile environments and collaborating effectively with distributed, cross-functional teams.
• Good understanding of security, access control, data protection and engineering considerations in regulated environments.
• Exposure to AI/ML, Generative AI, LLMs, RAG or AI-enabled applications is advantageous, but not essential. A willingness to learn and work with these technologies is important.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to break down complex technical problems and propose pragmatic solutions.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Proven ability to leverage AI tools to enhance productivity, optimise workflows to solve business problems, while applying critical judgment to ensure responsible and ethical use of data and AI outputs.
