Senior Product Manager
Indexed description
The Senior Product Manager leads the strategy, development, launch and continuous improvement of the Institute on Generosity’s (IoG) growing portfolio of research, tools and learning experiences – turning IoG’s ideas, research and intellectual property into exceptional products that reach the right audiences and achieve measurable adoption and impact.
Reporting to the Director of Operations & Strategic Partnerships, the Senior Product Manager owns the end-to-end product lifecycle, from identifying audience needs and defining product requirements through development, testing, launch, distribution, measurement and optimization. The portfolio includes research reports and publications, Giving 2.0TM Guides, Tactical Toolkits, tools developed by AI Fellows, an AI Prompt Library, digital experiences, video content and future products developed from IoG research and intellectual property.
The Senior Product Manager serves as the cross-functional owner of product execution. Content and research leaders retain substantive authority over their areas of expertise; the Senior Product Manager creates the strategy, systems, timelines and accountability required to translate that expertise into products that people can discover, understand and use. This includes owning execution around IoG’s research, products, content and major launches; coordinating internal contributors and external capacity; and ensuring every major product has a clear audience, value proposition, distribution strategy, launch plan and definition of success.
The ideal candidate combines strong product strategy, exceptional execution and audience-centered thinking. They are as comfortable defining what should be built and for whom as they are managing a critical path, directing a creative agency, analyzing post-launch performance or holding senior stakeholders accountable to a deadline.
Product Strategy & Portfolio Management
- Own and continuously refine IoG’s product strategy and roadmap, ensuring the portfolio advances organizational priorities and responds to clearly defined audience needs.
- Translate IoG’s research, intellectual property and programmatic ideas into compelling products and experiences that make generosity more accessible, actionable and meaningful.
- Partner with the Executive Director and content leaders to define the audience, user need, objective, value proposition, format and desired outcome for each product before development begins.
- Establish clear product requirements and recommend the appropriate format, experience and distribution approach based on audience needs rather than defaulting to predetermined outputs.
- Manage the portfolio as a whole, making recommendations about sequencing, prioritization, timing, dependencies and organizational capacity.
- Develop criteria for determining which concepts should advance to full products, remain pilots, require further testing or be discontinued.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen, extend or repurpose existing IoG intellectual property across formats and audiences.
Product Development & User-Centered Design
- Lead products from initial concept through development, testing and launch, creating a disciplined process for moving ideas into high-quality user experiences.
- Develop product briefs and requirements that establish the problem to solve, intended audience, user experience, key features, success measures and development pathway.
- Partner with research, content and program leads to translate substantive expertise into formats that are accessible, compelling and useful to intended audiences.
- Build feedback and testing into product development, identifying appropriate users, partners and stakeholders to test concepts and prototypes before broader release.
- Synthesize qualitative and quantitative feedback and translate learning into concrete product improvements.
- Ensure products meet a consistently high bar for usability, accessibility, quality and alignment with IoG’s brand and mission.
Integrated Launch Strategy & Execution
- Own the end-to-end launch strategy and execution for IoG products, from launch planning through post-launch optimization.
- Develop comprehensive launch plans that establish the product’s objectives, priority audiences, positioning, key messages, channels, distribution strategy, required assets, milestones, owners, dependencies, decisions and measures of success.
- Build and manage the critical path for every major launch, ensuring internal contributors and external partners understand exactly what is required, by whom and by when.
- Exercise real cross-functional authority over launch execution, proactively identifying risks, resolving bottlenecks and escalating consequential decisions through the Director of Operations & Strategic Partnerships and, as appropriate, to the Executive Director.
- Coordinate required approvals and decision points with the Director of Operations & Strategic Partnerships and other relevant stakeholders, with Executive Director and Founder/Chairman engagement at the appropriate level.
- Ensure launch planning begins early enough to influence product design, testing, communications and distribution rather than functioning as a downstream promotional exercise.
Product Marketing & Communications
- Ensure each product has clear positioning, audience-specific messaging and an integrated plan for reaching intended users.
- Translate product strategy and substantive content into clear briefs for communications, creative, design and marketing partners.
- Ensure communications across channels reinforce a coherent product narrative and clearly communicate why the product matters, who it is for and what users should do with it.
- Partner with the Executive Director and relevant content/marketing experts on high-visibility external assets and ensure appropriate review and approval by organizational leadership.
Distribution
- Define the distribution and activation requirements for each product, including which audiences must be reached, through which channels and at what moments in the product lifecycle.
- Partner with the Director of Operations & Strategic Partnerships to translate product and launch priorities into product-specific distribution strategies and help identify institutional partners capable of extending reach, strengthening credibility, testing products or driving adoption.
- Translate launch needs into clear partnership asks, timing and activation requirements so the Director of Operations & Strategic Partnerships can cultivate and manage the institutional relationships required to deliver them.
- Jointly develop launch distribution plans that identify priority partners, responsibilities, activation opportunities and expected outcomes.
- Ensure partner commitments are integrated into product timelines and launch plans and activated effectively.
Project Management, Systems & Organizational Accountability
- Own Asana as IoG’s product and project-management system, including its architecture, dashboards, templates, data quality and standards for tracking owners, deadlines and dependencies.
- Develop repeatable product-development and launch templates that create consistency across IoG’s growing portfolio while allowing appropriate flexibility by product type.
- Maintain accurate, executive-level visibility into product status, milestones, risks, dependencies, decisions and upcoming deadlines.
- Establish clear accountability across internal and external stakeholders and proactively follow up when deliverables or decisions are at risk.
- Continuously improve IoG’s product-management systems based on experience, performance data and evolving organizational needs.
- Create a disciplined operating cadence for reviewing the product portfolio with the Executive Director and relevant team members.
Measurement, Adoption & Continuous Improvement
- Define success metrics for each product across reach, engagement, adoption and longer-term outcomes, distinguishing product performance from broader organizational or programmatic KPIs.
- Own product-performance dashboards and ensure reliable data are available to assess whether products are reaching and serving intended audiences.
- Establish structured post-launch learning cycles, including appropriate 7-, 30- and 90-day reviews, to assess performance, capture insights and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Use quantitative performance data, user feedback, partner insights and other evidence to recommend changes to products, distribution strategies and future launches.
- Remain accountable for products after launch, ensuring publication or release is treated as the beginning of adoption and learning rather than the end of the product lifecycle.
- Develop institutional knowledge about what drives product adoption and impact and apply those insights across IoG’s broader portfolio.
Team, Vendor & Cross-Functional Leadership
- Manage the Research Contractor, setting clear priorities and expectations and ensuring research capacity is effectively aligned with IoG’s product portfolio and organizational priorities.
- Direct the substantive work outputs of product-related vendors, including design, communications and other specialists, while partnering with the Director of Operations & Strategic Partnerships on contracting and administrative processes.
- Establish clear roles, expectations and decision rights across contributors and ensure work remains aligned to the overall product strategy.
- Build productive relationships with content experts while maintaining the authority necessary to challenge assumptions, clarify audience needs and keep product development and launches on track.
