Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

• Annual Salary: £43,130 – £44,000
• Location: Swindon (hybrid working)
• Job Type: Full-time, 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday

This role is pivotal in building, operating, and enhancing the Azure-based infrastructure that supports our web and digital platforms. You will work closely with the Digital Engagement team to ensure platform reliability, performance, and security.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Azure Infrastructure Design and Operations:
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable and highly available environments on Microsoft Azure.
  • Manage App Services, networking, and load balancing for .NET web applications.
  • Handle DNS, CDN, WAF, and edge configurations via Cloudflare.
  • Implement autoscaling, health checks, disaster recovery strategies, and failover to improve reliability.
  • Optimize caching and session management for horizontally-scaled architectures.
• DevOps, Automation, and Deployment:
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using ARM, Bicep, or Terraform.
  • Implement deployment strategies such as blue/green and zero-downtime deployment slots.
  • Manage secure handling of client keys and support rollback automation.
• Monitoring, Logging, and Observability:
  • Configure monitoring, dashboards, tracing, and alerting using Azure Monitor and Application Insights.
  • Track and remediate application errors and manage server performance analysis.
• Security and Compliance:
  • Implement IAM, secrets management, TLS, and other security controls.
  • Manage firewall rules, private endpoints, WAF, IP allow/deny lists, and bot protection.
• Documentation and Collaboration:
  • Produce and maintain architecture documentation and operational runbooks.
  • Collaborate with software developers and third-party suppliers to align infrastructure with application needs.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Hands-on experience with Azure App Services, virtual machines, subnets, load balancing, and scaling.
• Expertise in networking, CDN strategies, and traffic flow management.
• Familiarity with Cloudflare, including caching rules, headers, and bot protection.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps automation, and collaboration workflows.
• Strong understanding of disaster recovery, backup, failover, and load testing practices.
• Ideally, experience within an Agile project management structure.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to diagnose complex infrastructure issues quickly.
