Senior Engineer

Job Summary

Our client, a major U.S. airline, is looking for a Senior Java Engineer to support a backend integration project with Coupa (procurement platform), contract up to 9 months, based in Tempe, AZ. This person will design, develop, and deploy Java-based services, containerize and manage them via Azure Kubernetes Service, and build out CI/CD pipelines. Looking for someone with real hands-on Java development experience (Java 17+/Spring Boot 3) combined with practical Azure/AKS deployment experience, not just general cloud exposure, plus strong REST API and DevOps automation skills.

This position is W-2 only. We do not work with third-party firms or C2C arrangements for this role.

Core Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Java-based applications using modern engineering practices
• Build and integrate RESTful APIs for internal and external consumption
• Package applications using Docker and manage deployment/scaling in Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions
• Manage source code and release processes using Git, GitHub, and CloudSmith
• Implement monitoring and logging using Dynatrace and Mezmo
• Apply cloud-native security best practices in application deployment
• Collaborate with architects and engineering leadership in an Agile/Scrum environment

Required Skills/Experience (Must-Haves)

• 5+ years of related Java development experience
• Java 17+ / Spring Boot 3, strong Core Java (Java SE)
• Hands-on REST API development
• Strong experience with Docker and container-based development
• Hands-on experience with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
• Practical knowledge of Azure networking (VNet, private networking, security configs)
• Advanced experience with GitHub Actions for CI/CD
• Strong scripting/automation skills (Bash, Python, or PowerShell)
• Hands-on experience with Git, GitHub, and CloudSmith
• Proven experience building microservices architectures

Preferred Skills/Experience (Nice-to-Haves)

• Azure certification (AZ-204 or AZ-305)
• Experience with event-driven or streaming architectures
• Knowledge of cloud cost optimization strategies
• Experience mentoring or leading technical teams

Work Environment

• Location: Tempe, AZ - 3 days a week onsite
• Contract runs up to 9 months (17-week initial term)

Compensation & Benefits

• Pay Range: The approximate pay range for this position is between $33.00 and $48.00 per hour. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to background, knowledge, skills, and location. We comply with local wage minimums.
