About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Quantum Software Engineer (m/f/d) to join our interdisciplinary HPC and quantum computing team at GWDG. This full-time position (39 hours per week) is funded through the GWDG QC project, with a contract valid until October 2029. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in developing and expanding GWDG’s quantum computing ecosystem, focusing on anomaly detection for industrial applications. Your primary responsibility will be to implement a containerized FullStaQD instance, serving as a reference platform for various project landscapes. This role demands expertise in software architecture, security standards, and integration of heterogeneous APIs, with a particular emphasis on HPC scheduler systems like SLURM. You will collaborate closely with research and industry partners to build scalable, secure, and efficient quantum computing solutions, contributing to the advancement of quantum anomaly detection tools. The position offers a stimulating environment at the intersection of applied computer science, High-Performance Computing, Quantum Computing, and AI, providing ample opportunities for research and professional growth.

Qualifications

  • PhD and/or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Physics, or a related field
  • Proven industry or research experience in software development
  • Demonstrable coding skills in complex software systems (without AI assistance)
  • Experience in software architecture and quality management, especially for containerized systems
  • Knowledge of handling heterogeneous APIs and integrating HPC scheduler systems such as SLURM
  • Understanding of quantum computing job characteristics and resource requirements
  • Familiarity with compiler/transpiler pipelines
  • Knowledge of encryption, data protection standards, and GDPR/DSGVO compliance
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written)

Responsibilities

  • Implement a modular, scalable infrastructure for quantum computing applications
  • Develop and manage containerized FullStaQD instances as reference implementations
  • Establish CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks to ensure software quality
  • Handle heterogeneous APIs and integrate HPC scheduler systems such as SLURM into the platform
  • Ensure adherence to data protection and security standards, including GDPR compliance
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize quantum anomaly detection workflows
  • Contribute to the development of secure, efficient, and user-friendly quantum computing tools for industry applications
  • Participate in research activities and knowledge sharing within the scientific computing community
