About Apylon and the opportunity

Apylon is building agents for the most complex workflow out there - financial admin in healthcare.

Hospitals and payers move billions of euros through fragmented, manual workflows shaped by clinical data, payer rules, contracts, and local coding systems. We believe this is a data, machine-learning, and automation problem disguised as financial operations.

We are live with leading private hospitals and expanding quickly. Every hospital presents a different challenge: EHR systems are configured differently, national coding rules vary, and contracts describe the same clinical event in different terms. Your job is to help us turn that complexity into a system that learns: each new integration should make the next one faster, safer, and less expensive.

Apylon is backed by experienced operators and top-tier investors in healthcare and fintech. Our team draws on experience from Zendesk, Pleo, Wawa Fertility, Sibill, and some of the largest multi-country hospital groups in Europe. You’ll join the first small engineering team, with massive ownership over both what we build and how we build it.

Delivering healthcare is hard. Getting paid for it shouldn’t be.

You’ll be responsible for

  • Own EHR integrations end to end: APIs, schemas, undocumented behaviour, operational failure modes, and vendor changes.
  • Build reusable integration-platform primitives for extraction, normalisation, versioning, replay, monitoring, and observability.
  • Design the canonical data model that connects heterogeneous EHR data, reimbursement systems, national coding standards, and hospital-specific conventions.
  • Build reliable inputs for our billing agents, including the constraints, validation, and evaluation systems that make model-assisted decisions safe to use in production.
  • Work directly with hospital IT teams and EHR vendors: technical discovery, implementation, joint debugging, and onboarding.
  • Take responsibility for the full lifecycle of your work: design, deployment, monitoring, incident response, and iteration from real-world data.

Who you are

  • 3+ years building and operating production systems in complex, messy domains. We care more about demonstrated judgment and ownership than an exact number of years.
  • Experience using LLMs as production components—not just developer tools. You understand when to use models, when deterministic systems are better, how to constrain outputs, and how to evaluate reliability.
  • Strong data-modelling instincts. You know when abstraction creates leverage and when it hides important real-world variation.
  • Comfort working from incomplete information. You form hypotheses, test them against data, and distinguish unknowns that can wait from assumptions that could invalidate the system.
  • Confidence in customer-facing technical work: discovery calls, debugging sessions, and direct conversations with vendors and hospital IT teams.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure and distributed systems.
  • A practical, hands-on approach: equally comfortable designing an integration architecture and writing a quick script to answer an urgent question.

This role may be a strong fit if

You enjoy reverse-engineering systems you do not control, finding structure in messy real-world data, and turning one-off discoveries into reusable software. You are comfortable being the engineer in the room with customers and partners.

What this role is not

  • Consulting or bespoke delivery work. Each integration must improve the product and reduce the marginal cost of the next.
  • A role insulated from customers or operational reality.
  • Pure platform engineering or pure integration work: the value comes from doing both.
  • A role where incorrect mappings are merely technical defects. In this domain, they can produce incorrect invoices.

Bonus points

  • Experience with healthcare interoperability or coding standards, including HL7v2, FHIR, or national messaging and reimbursement standards.
  • Experience building and operating third-party integrations at scale.
  • Experience in healthcare, fintech, or another regulated environment.
  • Experience in an early-stage or fast-growing company.
  • Working proficiency in Danish, or German.

Our tech stack

  • Python · Django · React · PostgreSQL · AWS · K8s · Terraform · Bedrock
  • We’re pragmatic. You’ll have a big say in how it evolves.

What Apylon offers

  • The chance to solve one of Europe’s biggest healthcare inefficiencies.
  • Competitive salary + stock options (you’ll own part of what you build).
  • 25 days of annual leave + local public holidays.
  • Lunch on us during workdays at the office.
  • Regular off-sites and social events. We like building together, not just working together.
  • Travel within the EU roughly monthly. Onboarding a hospital, working through an integration with a vendor’s engineers, or spending time on-site to understand how the data is actually produced. If travelling to a hospital basement to figure out why an export is malformed sounds like a bad week, this isn’t your role.

Working at Apylon means embarking on a highly ambitious mission to rebuild the financial infrastructure of European healthcare. We’re already live with leading private hospitals, processing thousands of invoices, proving that complex payer rules can be turned into code, powering transparent, automated, and intelligent revenue systems.
