Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer for Cboe’s Cloud Operations team. The Cloud Operations team is responsible for building and operating Cboe’s cloud-based applications, including products supporting clearing, exchange, and data solutions platforms. This role is focused on designing, automating, and operating infrastructure solutions for cloud-native applications. Senior Cloud Engineers are expected to lead project delivery, shape team processes and technical standards, and raise the technical depth of the engineers around them. 

You bring breadth across infrastructure disciplines, including network design, system administration, storage management, security policy implementation, virtualization, and process automation. You apply it to build secure cloud infrastructure, support application runtime environments, and collaborate with engineers at all levels. You are proactive in diagnosing complex technical issues and own the automation the team depends on. 

Your responsibilities will be:

• Build and maintain a globally distributed cloud infrastructure platform using Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform)
• Collaborate with Cloud Platform Engineering and business unit application teams to engineer infrastructure solutions for their cloud-based applications
• Design, deploy, and operate Kubernetes-based platforms and workloads (EKS, Cluster API), including GitOps workflows (e.g., Argo CD)
• Support and enhance CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation
• Perform system and database maintenance, including application deployment, backup and restoration, patching, and upgrades
• Maintain cloud environments through incident response, troubleshooting, and performance tuning
• Participate in on-call rotations and support operational readiness
• Drive retrospectives to identify opportunities to improve platform scalability and supportability
• Lead implementation of cloud infrastructure projects from design through delivery
• Own complex workstreams end-to-end — scope, sequencing, and hand-off to operations
• Communicate status, blockers, and risks clearly to stakeholders and leadership
• Lead design discussions and reviews, and provide technical direction and feedback to other engineers
• Define and evolve the patterns and standards that keep the platform consistent and maintainable
• Collaborate with development, security, and operations teams to ensure systems are secure and compliant
• Create and maintain clear, accurate documentation — infrastructure designs, standard operating procedures, and support runbooks — tailored to the target audience (e.g., engineers, support staff)

The ideal candidate has

• 6+ years of experience working with public cloud platforms (AWS and GCP preferred) in a professional setting. 
• Deep, hands-on experience deploying and managing Kubernetes (EKS, GKE) and GitOps (Argo CD). 
• Deep, hands-on experience using Terraform, CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions), and scripting languages (Python) to deploy, maintain, and support cloud infrastructure. 
• Strong experience supporting containerized applications and Linux-based systems. 
• Strong understanding of networking, IAM, cloud observability, and common cloud services such as AWS VPC, EC2, S3, SNS, SQS, and Lambda. 
• Familiarity with managing secrets and sensitive configuration using tools such as HashiCorp Vault. 
• Experience designing, deploying, and operating fault-tolerant systems with on-call responsibilities. 
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, including working effectively with engineers, security, and operations teams. 
• Interest in continuous learning and in developing the engineers around you.

Salary Ranges (applicable for US locations only)

At Cboe, we are committed to providing a competitive, transparent, and market‑informed total rewards program. The anticipated base salary range for this role is $119,000-$154,000 in Kansas, $130,900-$169,400 in Chicago, and $148,750-$192,500 in New York, with actual compensation determined by job‑related factors such as skills, relevant experience, education, internal alignment, and location.

This role may also be eligible for annual incentive compensation and, where applicable, participation in Cboe's long-term equity programs.
