Senior Software Engineer – Node / React / TypeScript / AWS

Up to £75,000 + benefits

Birmingham City Centre – typically 1–2 days a week

There’s a good story behind why this role exists.

A few years ago, the CTO started building a SaaS platform from the ground up. It’s now grown into a product overseeing £5bn+ worth of projects.

And the business is now at the next stage.

The CTO is starting to step away from the day-to-day engineering to spend more time with customers and help grow the wider business. So they’re looking for a Senior Engineer who can come in, work closely with him and gradually take more ownership of the technical side of the platform.

You won’t be joining to just pick up tickets.

You’ll have a genuine say in what gets built, how it’s architected and how the platform evolves, while still being properly hands-on with the code.

The stack is Node, React, TypeScript and AWS, with plenty of greenfield work and the opportunity to own features from the initial idea all the way through to production alongside the rest of the team.

One of the best things about the setup is that it’s genuinely a start-up backed by a much larger company.

So you get the autonomy, pace and lack of red tape that comes with a smaller tech business, but without a lot of the uncertainty that normally comes with joining a start-up. You’ve got the backing and job security of a much larger organisation behind you.

The culture is very much good engineers geeking out over hard problems. They care far more about strong engineering fundamentals and how you approach problems than whether you’ve used every exact framework in their stack.

You’ll ideally have experience with:

• Node.js / TypeScript
• React
• AWS
• APIs and backend systems
• Testing and maintainable architecture
• Strong software engineering fundamentals
• Taking ownership of products and technical decisions

This would suit someone who still wants to spend most of their time engineering, but is looking for that next step in ownership, technical influence and responsibility.
