About The Team

The Database Engineering team is a distributed team responsible for providing 24/7 operational support for customer environments. The team also evaluates, adopts, and deploys new technologies and services into live production environments, ensuring they are reliable, scalable, secure, and production-ready.

At Workday, we are looking for a Senior Site Reliability Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, challenging environment and enjoys solving complex technical problems at scale.

In this role, you will support large-scale MySQL and open-source database environments across production and development systems, participate in an on-call rotation for critical production issues, drive automation to improve availability and scalability, and help architect both existing and new database services in our production environment.

About You

Basic Qualifications:

• 7+ years of experience managing databases for enterprise cloud applications at scale.
• 3+ years of experience working with MySQL and/or PostgreSQL database environments in private and public cloud platforms, including AWS and/or GCP.
• Experience with managed cloud databases (AWS Aurora, Google Cloud SQL) and core architecture principles (design, replication, clustering, HA/DR, backup/restore).
• Background as a Database Engineer/Architect/DRE operating Linux-based, clustered open-source and NoSQL technologies (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis, Riak).
• Proficient in Python or Go, with secondary scripting experience (Shell, Ruby).
• Proven experience with Linux operating systems and containerised environments.
• Hands-on experience with containerisation (Kubernetes, Docker), CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Ansible, Chef, Git, Jenkins, Argo).
• Hands-on experience supporting mission-critical production workloads on MySQL, PostgreSQL, or other open-source databases.
• Proven track record supporting mission-critical, high-availability production environments.

• Deep knowledge of MySQL GTID, group replication, and Galera HA solutions. Familiarity with ecosystem tools like Orchestrator, Percona (MHA/Galera), Vitess, Ceph, Gluster, and Pure Storage.
• Solid understanding of IaaS capacity management principles across AWS, GCP, and private cloud environments.
• Proficiency with GitHub, Jira, and Confluence, alongside excellent technical documentation and communication skills.
• BS/MS in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
