Senior DevOps Engineer | AWS Ownership | Remote

Location: Remote 1st to Warrington (roughly once or twice a month)

Salary: £70,000 - £75,000

I'm currently looking for: Senior DevOps Engineer (AWS, Terraform, ECS)

Our client is a technology and engineering business building the digital platforms behind a group of consumer and business-facing services / customer-facing digital products.

They're looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to take genuine ownership of their AWS estate and play a key role in shaping how technology is built and run across the business.

This isn't a role where you'll be managing tickets or maintaining someone else's infrastructure. You'll have real, end-to-end ownership of the cloud environment, from Terraform and ECS to security, disaster recovery, observability, CI/CD and cost optimisation.

You'll also help shape how development teams work with infrastructure, building their confidence and capability in owning the infrastructure behind the features they build.

You'll take the lead across:

• AWS & cloud infrastructure — owning and improving the AWS estate across multiple accounts and regions
• Infrastructure as Code — owning the Terraform estate, building reusable modules and bringing legacy infrastructure under management
• Containers — running and improving containerised workloads on Amazon ECS, including scaling, health checks, load balancing and deployments
• Security — IAM, networking, secrets, encryption, credentials and vulnerability scanning
• Disaster recovery — designing, documenting and regularly testing a multi-account, multi-region DR strategy
• CI/CD — building and improving deployment pipelines with safe promotion through dev, staging, UAT and production
• Observability — monitoring, logging and alerting that flags problems before your users do
• Cloud cost management — identifying and delivering measurable AWS cost savings without compromising resilience
• Incident response — acting as a senior escalation point and driving root-cause fixes through to prevention
• Developer enablement — standards, modules, tooling and review processes that let developers confidently own their own infrastructure

AWS depth is genuinely key for this one. We're looking for someone with significant hands-on experience running a production AWS environment at a senior level, strong Terraform experience (modules, remote state, drift, plan review, importing existing resources), and comfort working across multi-account, multi-region environments.

You'll also need strong AWS networking knowledge (VPCs, subnets, routing, security groups, load balancers), experience running Docker workloads on ECS, and a track record building CI/CD pipelines with multiple environments and approval gates. Experience with managed relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL/Aurora), strong infrastructure security fundamentals, and a history of driving measurable cloud cost savings will all stand you in good stead. Exposure to Kubernetes/EKS, messaging tech (Amazon MQ/RabbitMQ), or working in environments subject to security assurance or audit would be a bonus.

This one's remote-first, with an expectation of being on-site roughly once or twice a month to check in with the wider team.
