Position Description

GEICO is seeking an experienced Senior Staff Engineer with deep understanding of using Netbox as the source of truth to drive automated configuration management and drift control for Enterprise network devices. This role is on our Infrastructure Automation Tools team but will need to feel comfortable working across teams with stakeholders from across the company to establish good policies around data governance, documentation and communication with those teams, and implementation of tools to ensure data is accurate and current. An ideal candidate should be comfortable architecting and implementing solutions, understand best practices for deployment and monitoring in a K8S environment, and be mentor for other engineers on the team to help them be even more effective.

Position Responsibilities

As a Senior Staff Engineer, You Will

• Ensure stability of deployments and updates to Netbox
• Document enterprise-wide policies for data governance to ensure Netbox is a reliable source of truth, and create automated tools to ensure the data is accurate
• Keep up-to-date with latest changes in upstream Netbox, and work with internal stakeholders to ensure stability of automation that relies on REST and GraphQL APIs, ensuring that updates are smooth and well-tested
• Understand networking hardware and concepts and how it relates to the data we store in network, and help drive the automation for managing those devices in a clean and reproducible way
• Implement and extend monitoring and alerting for our Netbox service and related CI/CD processes

• Professional development experience in one or more of: Python, Go, Rust, C
• Proficiency in scripting and automation, with adept use of Terraform, Ansible, Python, Linux, and Bash
• Experience using and maintaining Netbox and/or Nautobot deployments in an enterprise environment
• Hands-on experience architecting and implementing IaC solutions with tools like Ansible and Terraform to use Netbox as the DCIM/IPAM source of truth and automate configuration management and drive control across a fleet of server and network devices.
• Understanding of Active Directory, Windows Authentication, SAML, OAuth
• Insight into the interplay between hardware and network architectures within large-scale data center environments
• Exceptional problem-solving skills, strategic thinking, and meticulous attention to integration details
• Proven collaborative spirit, thriving in fast-paced, interdisciplinary settings, and managing multiple high-stake projects efficiently
• Industry certifications that endorse expertise in network architecture and operations, site reliability engineering, or data center operations are highly beneficial

• 10+ years of professional software development experience
• 8+ years of experience with systems architecture and design
• 6+ years of experience in open-source frameworks
• Experience working with OpenStack
• 4+ years of experience working with Azure, AWS, GCP, or another cloud service 
• 3+ years of technical leadership experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience

$110,000.00 - $260,000.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
